Springfield 2020 rimfire

Funny enough, I've gotten pretty decent groups with CCI SV out of my CZ 457 Pro Varmint... I need to measure my groups next time I shoot it.
I slowly begin to buy only CCI as my rimfire stash with an occasional wolf match ammo. The rest of the ammo that is bulk and not cci I am phasing out of my inventory and only use in my revolvers to practice with in double action only as I carry a 686. If I were an olympian or professional competitor I would use only match but I am not. In the past shooting my 52C Winchester and my Remington 513T the CCI stood toe to toe with some of the high tier ammo and the group size difference between match and CCI did not justify the price difference for me, since I do not compete.

Over on the forearm blog comments one of the guys says it's made by retay in turkey. No idea if he's right.

I have a CZ 455 I kind of want to upgrade out of. I'm not sure I will get anything better, but I kind of want to try.
Stamped Retay Made in Turkey on the gun. Look at the photo about half way through the review.

I'll definitely have to take a closer look! AAA walnut under $1000 is pretty inviting. Adjusted for inflation, this cost me a lot more.

Right now I'm not liking the wards ass back safety. Yea that rolls off the tongue about as smooth as I'd get that safety off.

Maybe they want to fix it in a couple years and sell a few more rifles. I'm interested in a CZ. They already fixed theirs

Kudos to Springfield for having four grades of walnut stocks.
Although for a grand I'd pick up a CZ first, but the entry level option is priced competitively with an American Rimfire and has more bells and whistles.
I like my Am Rimfire but while it's reliable and accurate enough it's not as good as some of my other rimfire rifles, and my most expensive rimfire is a Tikka T1x so my collection is pretty midrange.
Turkey makes some well made budget firearms and they're known for their high quality walnut stocks so this has potential if it's a shooter.

I have no faith in Utube videos especially since the guy didn't use match ammo.I have no faith in his shooting. Just another shmoe trying to get viewers. Since I just bought a CZ 457 I won't be buying it, but I will keep track of reviews.

I bought one day before yesterday with the synthetic stock and so far it"s been satisfactory except for the trigger.I'll replace it in the very near future with one of the tunrd Walker triggers. It has no problem staying well under an inch at 50 yards.Nice rifle though.

Well this guy can shoot and uses match ammo:

He's got numerous .22LR video reviews and generally comes across like he knows what he's talking about.

I don't think we've commented enough on the scope mounts. Getting rid of the awful rimfire dovetail mounts and their limited, lower quality ring and base choices can only help things.

No iron sights, no sale. The world is full of CZ4**’s that will probably outperform that thing. And will shoot a squirrel at 25yds without looking ridiculous.

Better than most for sure. A decent review. I would like to know if he has match credentials. I like that he didn't drag it out and showed the groups quickly and clearly. I think he is an avid gun guy but so are many of us. Odd that the rifle had more trouble with match ammo than standard. Thanks.

I believe so, in addition to his Youtube Videos has has a website. from his site:

Thanks again. I am satisfied that this guys reviews have value. He is a well qualified shooter and does a very good job making useful videos without the usual bunch of amateur trash.
One of his credentials is gluing an aspirin to a playing card and placing it 182 yards away. He hit the aspirin in 6 shots (I think) and split the playing card in 13 (again, I think). All of this is proven in one of his YouTube videos.

He's not pulling any tricks and making claims he can't back up. He's full of good information.

I have had a little time to try out the 2020 I bought a week or so ago.I just finished fitting and tuning a Rifle Basix trigger this evening. One Sunday a month several of us get together and have a very informal 22 match.I shot the 2020 yesterday and it did plenty good enough for me.Once I think a rifle has potential I start making changes and adjustments. The factory trigger is pretty much junk.It seems like they made it as cheap as they could because the trigger is one of the first things that gets swapped out anyway. We shoot for score, some benchrest and some offhand, and the 2020 can do either one very well. The stock is really good for a rifle in the price range, for once they even made the comb high enough for a scope instead of iron sights. It does say Made in Turkey on the barrel, but it's very well put together.I'm not a skilled shooter, but I did have a few different kinds of match grade ammo to try in it and I must say it had no problem staying under an inch at 50 yards, and the groups I shot were 5 shot groups. It had a few minor problems that I took care of this evening, the trigger was the most important one.The bolt handle was hitting on the stock, but a few minutes with the Dremel took care of that.I have a Bergara B-14 Trainer,a Ruger Precision Rimfire and a Remington 541-S to compare it to at home. And at yesterday's match, there were several CZ's,a couple of B-14's,an Anschutz Olympic position rifle and a couple of Winchester 52's that are full blown custom bench guns.I shot a couple rounds with the 2020 and with my B-14,and although the Bergara beat the 2020,I was still pleased with the Springfield. It had a nasty 3+pound trigger compared to a 2 ounce Shilen trigger in the B-14.The Bergara also had an advantage with the optic,it wears a 12-42 Nightforce and the 2020 has a 6.5-20 Leupold. The 14 is about 3 pounds heavier, again something in its favor. All in all I'm more than satisfied with the 2020.It digested several different kinds of ammo with no malfunctions of any kind.I'll get some pics up tomorrow sometime.

Once you get an Annie, the rest of 'em seem to collect more dust. Please don't ask me how I know this....
I broke down and bought a 1712 about 3 years ago and mounted a 5-25x50 Swarovski on it. 1" & better groups at 100 yards are common with Lapua Polar Biathlon.
The Sako P04 and Tikka T1X are great shooters, too, but it's the Anschutz that really tickles that itch...

I keep up with that "Pursuit of Accuracy" channel as well. The guy seems to have some good info and I found a lot of it helpful in getting me back into the game. Oddly, it seems that many find the fact that the Springfield feeds from 10/22 mags a plus, but I am of the opposite opinion. Those mags tend to be pretty hard on the ammo and are not conducive to accuracy.

In any case, that guy on youtube did try the rifle out with a bunch of different ammo before he declared the Springfield the worst for 2023. It just sort of has me wondering if the rifle wouldn't have done better with an ammunition catered more toward a semi auto, just because of the magazine. That youtuber is predominantly a bolt guy and may not have considered it.

Even with my CZ, I was sorely disappointed with its performance using all of the usual rimfire ammunition that people tend to gravitate to when shooting for accuracy. My rifle didn't shine until I went to Auto Match and SK Semi Auto.

In the end, I have to agree with the others that said that rolling the dice on the Springfield isn't worth it with all of the other options that have been tried and proven.

I had really considered this rifle for my daughter to build her a precision 22. But I was offered a never fired Ruger Precision Rimfire for 400 bucks from my brother in law. So that made the decision easy for me.
