parts to buy. BTW i owned this milspec in original configuration for some time . THis has the lock key . Since i dont have any experience disassembling a 1911, what do i have to buy (parts) to convert this to a flat MSH? What brand to go and what hammer spring weight (lb) ? Im planning to order parts from Midwayusa . Or is there any place better to get the parts? I want to convert mine to one like in the video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfke5VSKVeg

BTW the only thing i changed so far was added a guide rod and a 17 lb recoil spring. THe gun is very accurate like 2 inch grp at 25 yds on sandbag.

Check out the Ed Brown main spring housings that are on Brownells.com. There is one with a snakeskin texture that if I remember correctly one reviewer talks about using it on a Springfield with no fitting. Brownells will also have the main spring internals as a kit. It's called the mainspring housing rebuild kit.

You can order the mainspring cap, the mainspring and the mainspring cap pin individually. Go to the Colt parts section.
Maybe even the Brownells small parts section that has the big parts assortment has replacement pins and parts to refill the assortment.
Or for another source you could get the Ed Brown rebuild kit you linked that has everything including a 19# mainspring.

I followed the disassembly video tutorial in youtube (thank God ) and will order the flat MSH this Monday. I also called Springfiled and they said their supply of flat without the ILS and with the ILS are out of stock. I will just go for Ed Brown with snakeskin texture.

Now i noticed the parts that feels MIM are the slide stop , hammer and strut, beavertail, and arched MSH . The trigger and the small parts are probably investment casting. The sear and disconnector feel so flimsy . Im afraid if they ever hold up for a very long time.
