Greeting's All-

I'm quite sure we could fill volume's on our favorite here, but as much that
has been written I thought it would be fun to list the top three reasons
why you chose one over the other. This is "bashing" one or the other,
just kind'a was wondering what criteria you used in choosing your favorite~!

I will begin, as these are my three reasons for choosing an XD-45 ACP over
a Glock 21:

a) Grip- besides the angle, the grip just feels natural too me; and I have
huge mitts.

b) Fully Supported Chamber- even though the .45 ACP is a low pressure
round, I feel the need of a fully supported chamber; mainly cuz it do a lot
of handloading.

c) Shooting Hard Cast Lead Bullets- I know it can be done in Glocks also;
but its really not recommended by the "so called" factory experts. Frankly,
I don't know of any manufactuer of firearms that condones the use of
handloaded ammunition, period~!

And, as a side note I guess you could add the XD's features too the list.
You will notice that I'm not at all impressed with the XD's G.E.A.R. '06
accessory package; a $70 value. Its OK, but I just can't get excited
about it. Also, hopefully no one will ever need it but Springfield Armorys
Customer Service is top notch; and ranks right up there with S&W's
and SIGARMS~! ;) :D

My choice boiled down to the XD grip feeling and pointing much better for me, and I really like the addition of the grip safety.

Why I chose my G19 over XD9

- Glocks proven track record (durability, reliability, simplicity, etc...)
- Glocks supperier finish
- parts availability (goodies, extras, etc...)

and lastly the XD9 had not even been introduced yet.

The XD gear backage is nothing but plastic junk. The cheap mini-holster is good for keeping the trigger covered when you've got it next to your bed with a round in the chamber. That's about it.

I prefer the feel of the XD over the Glock. Last weekend at the range I spent time shooting my XD9 and XD40 and my friend's G17 and G19. XD's win hands down in my book. They fit my hand better and I shoot them more consistently. YMMV.

Glock 19, ultra reliable, very simple, loads of spare parts, toughness in extreme conditions.

XD does feel better., but that's where it ends. Too many safeties, too many moving parts, and things can go wrong. I believe in the KISS theory. By making it simpler, GLOCK has the rest of the world beat hands down. It's the 1911 of the 21st century.

Quit the nasty 6D 12h 57m (6 days) ago. Saved $39.23, forgot 261 cigarettes. Got 21h 45m of my life back. My Quit Date: 1/4/2007 3:00 AM

I'm not at all sorry I picked the XD45acp over a Glock, though I don't have anything against the G.
The included hoster carried just fine on me, though the mag carrier isn't my favorite. I keep it in my range bag, holding a couple spare mags. I did buy as many mags as I could as soon as I could, as there was some problem with mag availability. I think that's been mostly cleared up by now, as I noticed a few at the last gun show I attended.
Shop around, though. The first couple of tables had them marked at 30FRNs,
and further back I picked one up for 25.

Shooting, it was a great pleasure. No malfs, and it did fine with everything I tried in it. Next trip, I need to collect a few different ammo types and shoot for groups.

I chose the XD over the Glock mainly becuase of the ergonomics of the grips. The Glock just felt a little too thick for my taste, although the grip surface was fine.
The only thing in the XD gear I really like is the mag-loader. I've got big ole stubby fingers, and I was cutting myself on the mag edges with the 13th round sometimes. The holster is useless, thats for sure.

had HK USP40 - Too big

traded HK for G23 - Didn't like Grip

Bought XD45 - H-A-P-P-Y!!!

I went with the Glock over the XD, because:

- I don't like the way the XD looks, and I like the way it feels in my hands even less. The grip is atrocious. Other than that, It looks like a copy of a Glock, but with a few other random features thrown on - like the grip safety, and loaded chamber indicator - which I consider next to useless. Why get a copy when there's plenty of the original around? And aesthetics are important to me... really important.

- I've had one Glock, of the half dozen or so that I've rented, mess up on me once at the range... it had a broken extractor. Every XD I've ever rented at any range failed on me at least twice in a 200-round session... They were just dirty. That hasn't really sold me too much on XD reliability.

- Proven durability / reliability. I've never seen an XD tossed out of an airplane, run over with a truck, left in freezing saltwater overnight,, filled with mud, baby powder, sand, etc. - and still shoot a full magazine with no failures.

FWIW, I do think the XD has the best trigger of any striker-fired platform...

Glock and aesthetics!!! Can you use those two words in the same sentence without getting arrested???:D

Glocks don't work for me as my hands are too big to fit into those finger grooves. I tried both the 17 and 19 models and found it to be the same with both of them. I haven't tried any of the previous generation models, so those might be different.

XD's fit perfectly in my hands and point naturally which led me to purchase an XD 9 today. So obviously, they get my vote.

Still, it's a completely subjective thing. From what I've seen, the both seem to be essentially equal as far as peformance so it just comes down to one's personal preference.

XD for me

I bought the XD because...1) Superior ergonomics for ME, 2) The XD was $100 cheaper, and 3) The fully supported chamber (this matters with 40 S&W ammo) and the ability to shoot lead bullets (I reload my target ammo).:D

I've never been able to warm up to the blocks, I mean Glock's.:neener:

Grip? Well, the G21 either fits you or not. If it doesn't shop elsewhere.
Fully supported chamber? Non factor because it is in fact a low pressure round.
Hard cast bullets? I would bet the percentage of enthusiasts that shoot hard cast bullets are EXTREMELY low. Once again a non factor.

Hey, if you want to go out and lay down your hard earned dollars on an XD...go for it. I'm not impressed. The G21 has been proven time and time again for the last sixteen years or so. I've got a G21 circa 1994 and it still works perfect.

There is no "versus" when it comes to a G21 and an XD of whatever flavor. The XD pistols aren't in the same league as the fine proven line of Glock pistols plain and simple.

The XD was torture tested after it had already fired 17,000 rounds, the torture test consisted of another 20,000 rounds in grueling conditions.

37000, thats cute:D , check this out

http://www.volny.cz/glock/html/tested.htm

BTW I heard he is now up to 150000 with no part breakage or parts changed but I can't verify that, but either way 100000 rounds without even changing the recoil spring is  , Glocks, gota love em. Not in anyway saying the XD is not a good gun, but IMO it is not in the same league as Glock, but the XD line is a economical gun that will serve you well.

I don't own a gun, yet. I am contemplating the XD .40, while anything Glock is not even a consideration. The Glock certainly has a great track record, but I don't plan on putting anything I own through any of those tortures.

To name 3 things that made my decision, I would be getting really picky (because the Glock is a solid performer). I ruled the Glock out of my decision based almost entirely on the feel of the guns at the range. It's uncomfortable for me in the palm, the front of the grip is blocky, and my coverage of the trigger is less than ideal. I was more accurate and more comfortable shooting the XD.

darn i really have to limit it to he top three only? that will be a hard task for me. there are alot of reasons for me and i am gonna have to think which ones are the most important to me. hummm.
1) ability to shoot lead bullets, this is a big deal to me, and i am glad that i can shoot the lead in the xd's, it gives me alot more bang for my buck.
2) fully supported chamber.
3) metal guide rod and spring of the xd, not to mention all the other plastic pieces of the glock that are metal on the xd model of handguns, ie trigger, sights, etc.

Ah c'mon...what has the XD line of pistols proven? They have been on the market a relatively short time and haven't proven jack squat. It was a new pistol line that caught the eye of some folks that wanted something new and were confirmed "Glock haters". To compare an XD to a Glock is ridiculous.

And price? The XD45 I saw was $509.95. Please. That's about the biggest ripoff in the industry. Like I said, if you salivate over your XD then great! And if it works for you? Fine, but it ain't no Glock by a longshot.

Here's what I've seen lately;

1) XD's vs Glock
2) The Beretta polymer vs Glock
3) The S&W polymer vs Glock
4) And awhile back...Steyr vs Glock

Gee, do you see a pattern here?

Now, I'll buy H&K vs Glock ;)
