Springfield XD's vs. Glocks

I own both a G21 and an XD-45, so I can say with some experience that you made the right decision going with the XD.

And price? The XD45 I saw was $509.95. Please. That's about the biggest ripoff in the industry. Like I said, if you salivate over your XD then great! And if it works for you? Fine, but it ain't no Glock by a longshot.

You're right, it ain't no Glock and that's why folks like 'em!:D

I quess that I am weird, because I like both. I can adapt and the grip angles on either do not bother me in the least. Glocks have to have somthing going for them because all the comparisons. As far as Glock 21 compared to XD 45, I have to go with my XD since the smaller grip circumference. I have 3 Glocks and 1 XD. I may buy another Glock, but I am pretty sure tha I will buy an XD sub-compact.:D

I've come to be of the opinion that this discussion is the 9mm vs. 45 acp debate, pure and simple.

XDs are nice pistols however like every other gun out their they have draw backs.

You can adjust a glock trigger on your own from anything from 12lb to 3.5lb for just a few bucks. The XD need an expensive trigger job done by a gunsmith, ohh and if your XD need warranty service and goes back to Springfield, guess what Springfield is going to do with your expensive trigger job??? The are going to reverse it back to factory norms.

A glock trigger pull stay the same, the XD will get lighter over time, so you lose consistancy.

Your out shooting and you have a minor problem with your glock, lets say a spring breaks. You can go to any glock armory and get another spring, you can order one, or if you shoot a lot (IDPA) you can actually plan ahead and have a couple spare parts on hand. With the XD, Springfield even if you have even a minor problem with your weapon, it needs to be mailed back to Springfield (Most of the time you pay shipping). Springfield will not mail you even the smallest, easy to install your self parts. You have to wait a week or two for your weapon??? what if you in the middle of an IDPA match, or what if is your only weapon, or you use it for CCW. A glock you can fix yourself on the spot or simply find an armor (they are everywhere) and it could be fix rather quickly.

Some people like Glocks, some people like XDs. Both are nice guns, but neither are perfect.

Lonestar,

Same old stuff from a Glock worshiper.

So what if your Glock breaks in a self defense situation??? All the spare parts in your tackle box ain't gonna help you then...and why would anyone need spare parts for Glock since they "never break". So who's buying all these spare parts and why?

As for not getting parts from SA, lot's of owners have a problem with that but I don't. If I was going to warranty the gun I wouldn't want some self styled gunsmith with no certification performing surgery on it. Then after they screw it up for sure, they expect SA to fix the problem for free (for which they cover shipping by the way)!

Anyway, as the XD continues to gain in popularity, I expect the market will respond with after market parts.

Now, if you think Glock is the greatest thing since donut holes, by all means use and enjoy, but don't try to pass off the XD as a non-competitor to the Glock 'cause we all know the XD45 has scared the pants off Mr. Glock, so much so he's introduced a slim grip 45ACP!

Be Well!

Depends on caliber

In 9MM and .40S&W, I would take the Glock hands-down.

In the .45 ACP, I would take the XD hands-down.

Doc2005

I might agree on that Doc2005,

I think the XD45 has it all over Glock in the size efficiency dept. 9mm/40S&W, I did like the size of my G23, but accuracy was not impressive.

I like both, but chose a XD357 for carry. Better trigger feel, and a better grip angle for me.
Everyone wants to feel like they chose the perfect weapon. It is a part of the competition gene. I would trust either gun in a snap.

Glock for me.

Both pistols are butt fugly in my opinion so it makes no differnce on looks. When you buy an ugly gun, then performance has to be the determining factor. The Glock has a two things on its side, simplicity and a track record. From my point of view, the XD took the Glock design and threw a bunch of extra crap on it that can fail.

XD. It out-Glocks the Glock in ever facet that matters: ergonomics and price. Reliability I'd call a wash. For the record you CAN get parts from a few vendors and the HS2000/XD has been in military service for a decade...

Okay this objection I don't understad at all...

the XD took the Glock design and threw a bunch of extra crap on it that can fail.

The XD is a simplistic striker fired mechanism...

The Glock trigger is a modern marvel IMO, the pull weight and feel can be changed with springs that costs less than 3 bucks (I have a 12lb) , You can't even order parts for a XD which a buddy of mine learned when his grip safety spring broke last week and he has to mail the whole gun in for a simple spring. The XD is a fine firearm but what ticks me is a product like Glock comes along with a true winner and every gun maker and his brother ends up trying to copy them. No flame intended, like I said the XD is a fine firearm just giving my honest and first hand experience with both.

I shot shot several XD45's. They worked, but I did not care for them. To be me they are uglier than Glock's(if this is possible) and I did not care for the way they felt, or the grip safety.
I do however think, you have a winner with your P220.

To be me they are uglier than Glock's

I find it odd that many people feel that way. To me, SIG's and Browning Hi-Powers are some of the UGLIEST guns I have ever laid eyes on :barf: . I always thought Glocks and XD's were much more handsome.

I cannot speculate as to which is better, because I like both. While the Glock has more documented torture tests, I would say that they are both equally tough.

I was set to buy a glock 26 and was leaving the range to go to the bank and get the cash (for the cash discount) when I walked by the XDSC 9. I liked ask to see it and was really impressed with how it felt in my hand. I love the 16 round clip that comes with it too. The reason I was going to by the glock was reputation, reliability, aftermarket support. But, I just couldn't get over the well the XD felt plus it was cheaper. I bought the XD and have put 800 rounds through it in 3 trips to the range and I am glad I chose the XD. I am surprised at how accurate it is. You can't knock Glock. Their reputation is second to none; but, I just don't like the feel in my hand.

Trust me I own a few glock but I'm no glock worshiper. Glocks have multiple issues that have been brought up on numerous occasions. Again Neither weapon is perfect. If an XD fails in an Self defense situation your in the same boat as with a Glock. My beef is unlike Glock and most other companies Springfield is refusing to release any parts for the XD owners. If you shoot IDPA or if you shoot alot and want to do some preventive maintenance, you can't do that with an XD. If you shot 10,000 rounds thru your XD and decide that maybe it is a good time to change out the firing pin spring, you can't call up Springfield and have them mail you a spring, and an average gunsmith will not be able to help you. It is not covered under warranty so you have two options. You can wait til it fails  or pay $50 to $80 for shipping and whatever instillation charges springfield is going to charge you for a fire pin spring that is worth less than $5 and that almost anyone can go online and in 2 minutes be able to install themselves. I have no problem ordering a part from Glock, ruger, Kel-tec and all the other gun manufactures. The XD is a fine gun, but Springfield parts policy STINKS, plain and simple.

Funny for the longest time the only .45 that XD had was .45GAP, Glock came out with a .45acp and a year or two later here comes the new XD .45acp. I personally don't drink Kool Aid. Both are fine guns. I like shooting both and that is what it is all about.

XD for me..

not sure how many times ive seen this argument before though! kinda reminds me of a Chevy vs. Ford debate. both do the same thing, both have there problems and breakage (they are man made for petesake) the way i see it it really comes down to personal preferance and which one you shoot better. ;)

as for the xd gear package it has no use for me. the loader that comes with it is handy till you get your mags broken in! I would rather carry mine in a nice leather holster than a piece of plastic :neener:

Amen on that I had a Springfield champion with less than 200 rounds that had to go back because they would not sell me a extractor.
