Springfield XD's vs. Glocks

lol i talked them into selling me a roll pin and a spring for my XD:D t

hey did say any other part i would have to ship them my gun. there warrinty is pretty good though if the gun has an obivious malfunction due to there workmenship they will pay shipping both ways and fix it for free.

i prefer glock because of simplicity (KISS theory) and reliablity. parts availability and the fact that it fits my hands doesn't hurt either.

I have an XD 45 Compact and like the feel of it, although it definitely feels more formidable to shoot then my 1911. Never had a problem with it.

At the range I shoot at they have an XD9 rental... When I asked about it and how their agreement with the manufacturer works, they said that they don't buy any of their rentals, and get free ones from various manufacturers. Regarding the XD9, they said that they saw 125,000 rounds go through it before it broke - and then they just sent it back to Springfield, whom replaced it for them for free. Of course, had that been an individual's gun, they would have either done the same or repaired it for free as well.

125,000 rounds through a highly-abused gun through probably thousands of hands before breaking isn't too shabby in my mind. :)

"125,000 rounds through a highly-abused gun through probably thousands of hands before breaking isn't too shabby in my mind. "

Probably without being cleaned too.

Change a name, add $100!

I'll take a Glock, thanks.
It's very hard to go wrong with a G19.

I recall the HS2000 being a decent, less expensive alternative to a Glock.
For $274, it was a great deal.
But then Springfield took over, and the name change added $100, which somewhat soured me.

My favorite Glock ate it's trigger spring after several thousand rounds, quick fix.
My buddies Glock shot just fine with a broken extractor, but we changed it when we noticed.

'71 Chevy, blue, 350 4 bolt. The finish is kinda rough but I don't mind the rust holes. They improve my aerodynamics:D .

Oops wrong thread.:uhoh:

Why I choose Glock Over XD

Fired 20,000+ rounds threw my glock 22 without a malfunction.
Rented an XD9 at the gun range, fired 300 rounds threw it, 2 fail-to-feeds

Glock has a very short trigger reset makeing double tapping very natural.
The rented XD has a very strange double reset set-up.

60% of Law enforcement agencies use glocks.
very few agencies use XD's, (if any)

I will admit, the XD i rented at the range was in despirate need of a cleaning, but that dosent change my opinion much.

I prefer the XD, by quite a bit. I like the feel a lot better than the Glock and the XD has a fully supported chamber. I like the grip safety on the XD too. Both are excellent weapons and dependable as the day is long. Your choice.

Both are excellent handguns...

The Glock has more of a track record than the XD, both good and bad.
The XD has the grip safety that I like very much.

They come in pretty much the same configurations and calibers.

The XD is a bit less expensive than the Glock.

It really is a toss up.

I like the XD more though.

Top three reasons for owning 3 Glocks and zero XD's.

1)Price. I can and have found used Glocks for much less than I can find used XD's.
2)Handling. I find the XD to have more muzzle flip than the Glock design.
3)Orneriness. It just sticks in my craw that the HS2000 was much cheaper than the XD.

I would probably be an XD45 owner if I did not already have a Glock 21. But I have large hands and do not find the Glock size detrimental to my shooting abilities, although the Glock is BIG and feels it.

Hmm...

I owned 2 Glocks in the past, and I never really liked how they felt, but I know they are reliable. I got my mitts on the XDs and I loved them.

The XD is reliable and it's a great looking and feeling gun to me, and quite obviously to a hell of a lot of other people. Both function very well, but the XD line is more aesthetically pleasing overall, IMO.

The way I see it -- dyed in the wool Glock fans are just like old ladies annoyed that there's a hotter chick in town.

I owned an older G-17 for several years. I fired thousands of reloads though it without a failure of any kind. I could shoot it well if I practiced VERY frequently. If I didn't shot it for a while MY accuracy fell back to square one....... ergonomics issue (for ME)? The G-17 also threw the empty cases EVERYWHERE..... @ 25% of them strait back at my head!

I now own an XD-9. I was able to shoot it accurately the first time I picked it up, in fact I've been able to shoot accurately with EVERY XD I've shot! They must fit me. I bought my XD shortly after the crime bill was repealed. Springfield traded my 10 round mags for 15 round mags at NO CHARGE! I cannot complain about their customer service. XD puts empties in a nice little pile, none of them hit me in the head. The only issue I have is that in @ 1500 rounds the XD has failed to feed 2-3 times.

If MY XD had been 100% reliable I'd say winner hands down....... Now I'm scratching my head. I have a S&W 915 9mm that was given to me. I'll probably trade the XD towards a 1911.

i chose a g19 because i love the grip angle - it points naturally for me. i also like the feel of the gun in my hand - it doesn't feel top-heavy and unbalanced like the xd. i also like the reliability and accuracy of the glock. i first bought a taurus pt111, then traded it for the glock i should've gotten to begin with. xd was never even a consideration: it's seriously ugly to me (and that's saying a lot to think a glock looks better than anything!). also, if i liked the grip angle of the xd, i would just stick with my 1911. i'm sure the xd is a quality gun, just not for me.

somebody brought up early in the thread about the superior glock finish...

The XD .45s have a new melonite finish that is supposedly identical to the glock's tenifer. all XD's should be going that way according to the company. now, might be some lag depending on how old that "new" gun in the display case is.

I have an XD .40 service and XD9 SC. have carried both extensively without being super anal about the finish (just normal cleaning, etc). no signs of rust after 2+ years on each.

just loved the XD grip better... grip safety is nice too. can't argue that glocks aren't great, either though.

good thread guys....

I am left handed and have had a hard time deciding between the Glock and XD...

Thanks for all the first hand info....

XD for me. I like Glocks, but they don't shoot remotely as well for me.

My reasons:

1) The ergonomics, of course. I had a G17 that pointed WAY high and I could never get used to it without screwing myself up on my other handguns.

2) Reliability and accuracy. I'm currently at 9,000+ rounds through my XD9 and have yet to have a single failure of any kind. That's no BS... mostly cheap Winchester WB with some other assorted bulk pack and premium ammo thrown in as well. This gun just plain shoots. Other than a little adjustment period after shooting another handgun for a while (less than 30 rounds or so) I'm hitting consistently at 50 yards and fairly well at 75. The G17 never came close in either department. Lots of jams, lots of missed shots (mostly due to #1.)

3) Simple enough, I got a good deal just after the XD's started to "boom" on the market. A fella wanted to sell his XD9 after putting 85 rounds through it for $385. I jumped on it and have never regretted it. My G17 was long gone before that because it just never worked for me.

I don't dislike Glocks, but I definitely prefer the XD.

[edited to add] Someone brought up the rust issue (as they always do...) I've had a few "hazes" of light surface rust on mine when I'd leave it in the glove box or similar for a while, but never anything that a quick swipe with an oil-dampened cloth didn't completely fix... I don't consider that a big deal at all because my guns get used pretty hard.

I am drawn to the Glock just because of its simplicity...and seeming near perfect track record...

I can learn to use the right handed controls....but....

I struggle with the pointing characteristics of the Glock.

Though I am left handed...I sustained an injury to my right hand many years ago that left my ring and pinky finger somewhat disabled...so to use the Glock in my weak hand...it wants to point high...no matter what I do...

Does anybody have any experience with the Robar grip reduction for the Glock?

Honestly, I like the XD more...but since I have no experience...still hesitate to buy one....

Shane

Also, hopefully no one will ever need it but Springfield Armorys
Customer Service is top notch; and ranks right up there with S&W's
and SIGARMS~!
I've heard some grumblings of SA's customer service slipping. I know for fact Sigarms is a far cry from what it use to be, as a matter of fact they just plain suck now.

Hi Ala Dan,

I haven't tried the Springfield. I do have a Glock and like it very much. I have a little prejudice against Springfield for copyrighting the name and the name 1911A1 and putting it across as if they are the REAL government armory and that is the REAL Colt .45 Auto. I guess I'm old fashioned. I also don't understand the purpose of the grip safety on the XD. The gun shouldn't fire if you don't pull the trigger. Isn't that enough?

Glock customer service is an A+. Depite them transfering you to the wrong person...but once you get the right one...IT'S STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER!

I called them recently for Locking Block Pin, and the guy was super nice about it...even for something small, they'll give you all the help in the world.

Glocks are reliable, have a track record that is undeniable, parts are relatively inexpensive, are easy to work on and are tough as nails. Can you say that about an XD? I have three Glocks with over 6000 rounds without a hiccup. They go bang everytime I pull the trigger. I want a firearm that will protect me and my family when or if the time comes. That firearm is a Glock.
