I've had the SR40c for about two years now and maybe 700 or 800 rounds through it, including factory ammo and my reloads. Yesterday it stopped firing. The pin wasn't striking the primer hard enough. It didn't go slowly, it just stopped hitting the primer hard enough to fire. I've taken it apart and cleaned it (I've always done this regularly) and still no go. Should I just replace the spring or send it in to Ruger?
This is my first autoloading pistol. Is this typical?
Thanks in advance.

Remove the striker and clean the striker channel, striker and etc. Ruger has/had a video on their website on doing this. If you can't find it, there are YouTube videos galore. The procedure is very simple; this is a known problem..

You're welcome in retrospect.

I may have mentioned I have taken it apart and cleaned it several times. So I just bought a stiffer spring from Galloway Precision for $12. I think this will fix me.

Right, I take mine apart (field strip them) and clean them every time I shoot them too. But cleaning the striker channel every time you shoot it is a bit of overkill . Let's hope a $12 spring fixes you up.

700 - 800 rounds is not many rounds to wear out that spring. If it suddenly stopped, there's some kind of crud in that striker channel.

I can assure you that the striker channel is clean and free of debris. Something else is wrong. I purchased and installed the heavier spring from Galloway Precision and now it only fires half the time. I'm sending it back to Ruger.
I just hope whatever they do to it is a permanent fix and not a temporary fix. I mean, I'm supposed to trust my life with this firearm??

It's a machine, and occasionally machines break.

Ruger WILL take care of you. The SR pistols are some of the best.
