I love my SMLE. Thinner and lighter than I expected. I do find ARs to be boring. I don't know why exactly but I simply find bolt action rifles more fun to shoot.

EDIT: Gah, can't get a picture.

EDIT2: Found a picture online. Mine is a lighter color and the stock is in better condition.

Guess that's why I've always stuck with ole Winchesters..........

Stubbicat.......is you the same dude that several of us met up at a gun show in Denver several years ago???????????I had on a camo jacket with a MAGE patch on it

Dan
We may indeed have met at a gun show in Denver, but I'm so old I don't remember anymore! I have found a number of really nice older, odd, pieces at the gunshow but it is not a bargain hunter's paradise anymore. :)

One of the reasons we love wood stocks is because, in the proper hands, the wood becomes a medium through which artistic expression can shine. Synthetic stocks cannot be made to look this good. My custom Mauser, built on a commercial FN Supreme action, in .243 Win.

I also prefer steel and wood. I think a nice laminate stock is the best of both worlds.

Steel and wood with a German flavor. GEW 1916 Danzig (All matching except bolt) along with HK 33/93 klone.

Steel & wood - I'll take it old school. And a bit of old leather too.

While I am definitely in the wood and steel club (although I like the look of stainless over blued), synthetic has it's place.

Things like my Remington Nylons, AR-7 really wouldn't be the same if made from wood and steel. Well there is a bit of steel in the barrel liners.

And while I do have one AR (a gift) for the role it was designed I'd rather have my wood and steel Scout Squad.

Have some of both plastic and wood. Here's one of the wood and steel

I have always liked wood and steel. Back in 1988 I started re-bluing guns and refinishing stocks. I worked with an old Gunsmith and he hated poly and other new finishes that were on the market. So I learned how to do oil finishes first.
One day we got in a pre 64 Wichester that looked like it had been left in the woods for a season or two. We were asked to restore it to as close to original as possible. I learned a lot from that job and started restoring military rifles after that. Over the years I have restored and repaired a few thousand stocks.
I have found that it is easy to make a stock pretty but harder to make it look like it should.

Anybody else here like firearms of steel and wood?

Yup. I don't care for the plastic-fantastic rifles. Wood and steel leverguns and semi-autos are my favorites.

I really like wood and steel rifles. (See post 26 ^.)

But I'm about to buy a rifle with a plastic stock.
(See sig line: 22.)

Reportedly recycled pop bottles.

Better to use them for a stock than put them in a land fill.

And -- as a side benefit -- one more tree lives.
