Could someone help me understand the difference between the Steyr Classic, Pro Hunter and Forester?

I can figure out what their classic line is, just wondering what you give up with the other lines.

Thanks in advance

All I can tell you is seven or eight years ago I purchased a Pro Hunter in .270 and I couldn't be happier. It's a little uncoventtial in the looks dept but it shoots right along with my custom barreled Sako. Last I heard they were'nt importing them any more and some wholesalers had some super deals on their remaining stock. I wish I could answer your question better. Essex

The Classic has a nice blueing job and a fancy walnut stock. It uses the same SBS type action and barrel. The Classic was sold to retailers at the wholesale price of $1582. CDNN has them for less. It appears that Steyr may be in trouble with the feds. All Steyr shipments are being held up in customs. This is probably temporary.
These SBS rifles are probably among the most accurate available.
Good Luck

As 106rr says, Steyr has problems with the feds. Might be associated with a sale to Iran in 2003-4 of 800 firearms for "law enforcement". The Steyr Mannlicher line of wood-stocked hunting rifles were available as special order items from WalMart for a while, ending I think in 2006. (IMO, at $1,600-1,800 not the kind of item one would think would be in high demand by the traditional WM shopper) In any event, Steyr does not seem to have an active importer to the U.S. at this time.

As best I can figure, the Classic, Prohunter, and Forester all use the SBS action introduced in 1996. The Forester seems to be no longer marketed anywhere, but was a subdued version of the Classic. Where the Classic was highly polished blue, the Forester was bead blasted matte. Forester stock was oiled wood with low sheen. Prohunters are stainless bead blasted or some kind of grey coated finish with a composition stock with non-traditional lines. When and if available, Prohunters come in some large chamberings, the 376 Steyr and the "Big Bore" in 450 Marlin.

A little off topic but Wally worlds website also sells Sun computers! There are quite a few fairly high end items that they will sell via special order if you look.
