Straight 'rifling' in .410 revolvers?

The 45acps only work with moonclips, otherwise they would fall into the cylinder.

And as I said earlier, even though it has the longest leap, my gun seems to shoot them the best.

Whoa, stop the presses. I was unaware the Governor would accept either moonclips or .45 ACP....
News to me, though there would be an even longer leap from the ACP case to the end of the cylinder/forcing cone.

In any case, I've other revos to shoot the ACP or the Colt...but not the same revolvers.
Moon

In addition to the Governor that shoots both 45 ACP and 45 Colt (along with 410 shotgun) Ruger make a version of the Redhawk that is cut from moonclips that can shoot both 45 ACP and 45 Colt. Most any double action revolver chambered in 45 Colt can be cut for moonclips and then run both 45 ACP and 45 Colt. You can't go the other way, a 45 ACP revolver cannot be easily modified to also shoot 45 Colt.

If it were legal, it would be interesting to experiment with a smoothbore firing round balls at high velocity.
A .451" lead ball weighs only 140 grains and with the narrow bearing surface at the equator, you could blow one out very fast with moderate pressure. Muzzleloader shooters tell how effective the round ball is. But would it be accurate enough for CQB?

Round ball is no slouch for accuracy.

I had my cap & ball Uberti 1860 replica and one of my S&W's at the range at the same time. They shot very close to the same size groups at 15 to 17 yards. I'm by no means a masterful bullseye shooter but I manage to keep tidy 2 to 2.5 inch groups at that distance on most days. No special loading was done with the C&B revolver either. Just dumped in 30gns by volume, stuffed the ball down firmly and a drop of Canola oil on the ball to seal, lube and limit fouling of the bore.

Halfmoonclip, if you are able to see what the group looks like at around 10 ft on paper and it's clearly a ring shaped concentration then why not take note of the size of the less populated center and just aim that far back along the neck? Or if coiled then more at the center of the pile of snake so the ring hits the head and neck area and some of the rest of the body? Seems easier and likely more effective than waiting for the laws to change to your/our advantage....
