The experience of a builder buying lowers one at a time isn't the same as a factory assembling hundreds.

The incoming parts are taken off the dock and sent to Inspection, who make sure they are in spec - and in doing that measure to see where the critical dimensions fall in that batch for further assembly.

Truth.

Anyone else who has done a few (or more than a few) 80% receivers has seen this.

They're supposed to be .900" thick at the FCG, but I've had the forgings measure anywhere from .886" to .912". They're also rarely perfectly square.

Other thing I've seen more than once is the selector detent hole being a little fore or aft of it's specified location. I learned to compensate for that before drilling pin and selector holes, because even though being off a few thou won't affect function, you may end up with a selector that lands a few degrees off the 3 and 6 O'clock positions.

And though I've never encountered it, many folks have had to remove a little bit of material from the radiused area at the rear to get the receiver halves to close fully.

I've bought so many lowers that I have lost count.

I've NEVER had a problem with any of them, except for a polymer lower that was a total POS from day one.

Spikes, PSA, Anderson, and Aero all make good lowers. When I built my first AR, I sweated and researched stripped lowers. Now, I don't even give it a second thought. I buy one, and use it. I really don't care who made it.

I just used a lower built by del-ton.
Everything in spec and worked great. Cheap and free shipping from Buds.
