T/c. Shut down

So what are the options today for a single shot rifle platform with interchangeable barrels?

I don't think there is an option right now. I was too late to the party. Always wanted one but never got around to buying one

I'll never understand why companies buy other companies just to shut them down. Why wouldn't they just resell the company and tooling.

My biggest gripe was pricing. I could buy a complete Henry single shot for less than a frame from t/c. And a contender barrel wasn't terribly cheap either. How does that make sense. I'd like a switch barrel single shot but I may have to settle for a complete gun in each caliber I want

It's all about the $$$$. For the cost of the new barrels, for a few dollars more you could buy a complete rifle.

It was 2 years ago that S&W announced they had ceased production and intended to divest the BRAND, which was an unfavorable product for any would-be buyer, as buying the brand only meant access to the right to produce the TC products, but did NOT come with the ability to do so. Without assets or resources, the IP for a failing firearms business didn’t hold much value, especially within the context of a Global economic crisis…

Comparing the Henry rifles to the T/C’s isn’t apt. Price comparison isn’t relevant between a Honda Civic and a Porsche. But alas, we no longer have the option of T/C firearms, and it doesn’t really appear that we ever will.

TC would do well to go back to its roots: decent quality muzzleloaders and Contenders...but it probably can't. The S&W lawyers have seen to that.

Besides it no longer has that stash of high quality wood that made the MLs look so good.

I like TCs, even the plastic ones. They once were a great company.

Welp...If it is OK for folks to be upset and even Boycott over Beer, Syrup, Pancake Batter... etc...
S&W can Kiss It.. Not gonna even Look at another...
Buy a Good Brand, and Shut it Down.... I have a Choice Name for Such People...

Unfortunately the TC market is gone.

Orig Contenders felt good, but were limited on cartridge pressure.
G2 and Encores are bulky and feel weird.

While many were enamored with the concept of a "kit"..........or "one gun does it all", really, who wants just one gun and/or having to swap barrels?

IHMSA is about done.

Entry level rifles, and imports........cheaper than TC stuff.

IMHO , in my state (and maybe others) PCR (Pistol Cartridge Rifle) allowance for deer hunting, put the deck screw in the coffin lid of specialty pistol deer hunting.

I am sad to see them home because they were a prominent player in guns for average folks. I really wish their bolt actions were still around.

Having owned T/C Encores and Contenders, NEF/H&R handis, and Henry single shots, I can say that buying into the T/C brand would not net you much if factory barrels and accessories were concerned. All it gave was a little aesthetics and even that was hit or miss depending on how it was optioned and the preference of the beholder.

The aftermarket is where T/C became a sounder investment albeit an expensive one.

All of these are hunting rifles not target rifles so in that role, any of them will get it done.

I sold out of T/Cs (and H&R and Henry) when where I wanted to go with them became too expensive compared to a few Ruger American rifles.

I always wanted a Contender, having owned a couple of their excellent Hawkens, but couldn't justify spending the $ on them.

They used to be a good buy for their single shots but here the price has doubled if they can be found.

Edit I did some looking online and they are cheaper than I see locally, but they are showing out of stock. So I'm not sure if that is an old price or reflects current pricing

I've an Encore with 30-06 bbl and 50 cal muzzle loader bbl - always planned to get more barrels and also a Contender setup, but that is going to require more searching the used racks now. The Encore is aseriously strong/overbuilt firearm - maybe not as sexy as some, but it always shot well for me

Had Encore and G2. Got rid of em. Only TCs I have now are my Contender and Hawken, both stainless. Kinda sorta " pair " LOL

I like my encore.
A 22-250 barrel for coyotes.
A 300 win mag for deer/elk

Bought mine after one year dragging a remington 700 heavy barrel 300 win mag up and down the mountains.
Encore is an easy to carry compact rifle.

The market is definitely not gone but I suppose it probably shrinking as a total share of the larger firearms market. But only because the total market is growing so fast. The price for them is high and going up rapidly. Used ones are worth more than they ever sold for new. The T/C single shots are not going anywhere as luckily for us T/C made literally hundreds of thousands of them over the years and they are plentiful everywhere on the used market, albeit at high prices. To be honest I won’t really miss the T/C company except for their excellent customer service. I’d rather buy an old one than a new one and there are at least 5 companies making aftermarket barrels of better quality than T/C ever did. I think that was really their undoing. They had so much competition for barrels and didn’t offer enough customization, and because they had produced so many frames for so long they had pretty much saturated the market and were competing with their own used market for frames.
