I'm looking for a sitting height bipod. Not really inclined to jump into the high end (>$100) units becuase a bipod is a secondary thing to me right now so Harris and the knockoffs are what I'm looking at.

I've got two of the shorter Harris bipods with the cant feature and the notched legs. I like them pretty well and want the same in the 13-25 range, but whenever I look at the Harris units, their taller bipods do not have the leg notches. I've got a bipod with the friction lock legs and the stupid spring retract like the base Harris uses and hate it. It takes three hands to adjust. I'd like to buy Harris, but I see that Caldwell sells basically exactly what I want

Is there any reason not to buy the Caldwell? Am I just not finding the Harris model with these features? I know Harris is the original, but it's looking like they haven't kept their product up to date.

Get it. Harris is just a name, there's really nothing magical about them. I personally suggest skipping the giant bipod and getting (or building) some good, lightweight shooting sticks instead.

The long Harris models are usually 2 heights only. Kind of heavy too. And far too expensive. Had one on my .243 and too it off long ago for that reason.

Been running Harris for almost 40 years.
Leg notch 9-13's non swivel.
I dislike the longer ones.

Would go with shooting sticks.

As far as the name.............have had several sets over those years ...........never a problem.
I'll continue to buy Harris. They're made in the USA.

Where I work, our products are sold to people in the USA.

Kinda hard to ask them to buy my stuff when I won't buy theirs (esp when of such known good quality).

there's a pretty big difference (to me) in quality between caldwell and harris. maybe depends on what you're doing, but i'd stick with harris.

13" isn't tall enough for me for "sitting".

i'd recommend you look at some alternatives. first, leg extensions

kinda pricey, but way more height, less weight and they work pretty well.
if you are handy with tools you could probably make a set yourself. a friend of mine makes the ones i linked to and they're getting popular in matches.

second, as mentioned above, shooting sticks or a tripod.
www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=666989 these weigh .18 lbs and took a few minutes to make. they work great for sitting.

hmmm, I had forgotten about sticks. I think I've got a pair of those around somewhere. I'll have to play with that tonight. I do like the adjustability and firm attachment of a bipod though.

Hookeye, I have the Harris 6-9 and 9-13 and I agree they're well made. Both notched leg, with cant but I can't find where Harris sells anything taller than 13" with the notched legs. I don't find their standard legs acceptable, so while I also preferr to buy American, I'm not going to buy a product that I don't like just because of where it's made. I guess it seems like Harris is resting on their laurels a bit if the competition is offering products with better features and Harris isn't.

I bought the UTG/Harris knock off. It fell apart after a few hundred rounds.

I'm expecting an Atlas bipod to show up today from Amazon.
