So who's going to be the first one to try shooting trap with it? :D

I think I like this gun. As others have said, most of us here don't buy guns because they're prudent.

I thought it was a interesting concept too until I hefted one and pulled the trigger....one mile of gravel later it was back in the case.

Hey Crotalus, Since you are so brave, I got 300 acres of rattler country for you to walk around in and bed down on. I'm thinking of a certain rockpile I need to move.
If you want a rattler reserve, buy your own land. I'm going to shoot rattlers when I come across them and let the bullsnakes and ratsnakes fill the niche. Ace

I would love nothing more, I have been studying and collecting snakes professionally for about 15 years now, primarily venomous. Where are you and what kind of rattlers do you have? I've also got a whole slew of common and oddball guns and rifles I can bring along if snaking doesn't go well :).

And seeker_two... that misquito gun you mentioned....you may be onto something big with that one.

Outstanding response Crotalus. People fear snakes like people fear guns. It's the unknown and unaccustomed. I for one...well, I don't like snakes because they are foreign to me. I have 4 little kids though, and if one were on my property, I would protect the family. But...if I could call animal control to come get him instead of just killing it, I would. Living in Las Vegas, though, I've only seen a rattler once in the desert outside of town, and we just rode our motorcylces around him.

Regarding the Taurus judge, I was intrigued about the concept. It would be fun to shoot trap with, no doubt. For home protection, shot shell first and
.45 for the rest. I'd go for different grips though.

Judge Structural Strength

I was one of the first to own a Taurus 3" Magnum Titanium model. If you have a Taurus owner's manual, you will find that it is rated for +P loads. I have shot many.... of course at some cost to my wallet, and they performed quite well. My gun has a 3" barrel, so accuracy is not good, but I bought the gun for self-defense for home and at the job. If I had to use it, the distance would be under 7 yards max. I can assure you that 000 buckshot followed by cor-bon +P DPX's would do the job. That is how I load and shoot it at the range. I don't want to harm anyone, that's where the gun's physical "oh-crap!" appearance comes into play. You pull that guy at the bad guy, and he, or she, is liable to retreat quickly.

The Judge & Self-Defense

Personally I'll stick with my XD9-SC for self-defense but I did purchase a Judge last month for a car gun.

I've tried for years to get my wife to shoot but she has steadfastly refused to fire any handgun or rifle. To my surprise, she took to the Judge like a "duck takes to water".

It's ugly, it's not accurate and the cylinder's sloppy. All of the complaints on this forum are true. But, I now have a revolver that she can and will use to defend herself should the need arise.

And it really is fun to shoot.

And seeker_two... that misquito gun you mentioned....you may be onto something big with that one.

I think the idea that we could wipe out rattlers by shooting every one we see is about as viable as the idea that we could wipe out the mosquito population by slapping every one we see. We have a LOT of rattlers around here and I have a lot on my place, but I've yet to have a problem with one. I've killed 'em out of my yard to protect pets and people, but out in the field, they're easy to side step. They are pretty decent deep fried, though.:D

Number one thing I do against snakes is wear snake boots or leggings when I'm out where they are. Don't reach under things, grap logs, anything stupid like that without checking for snakes. You're about as apt to get hit by a scorpion around here as a snake if you do stupid stuff like that, anyway. I'm not sure which is worse, tell ya the truth. Ever get stung by a scorpion? It ain't nice. Yellow jackets tickle by comparison. It just becomes habit to watch for them after a while. Snake bites are most common to careless people. There are ways to keep from getting bit other than just shootin' 'em all and letting God sort 'em out.

On the subject of da Judge, I have a lot of uses for my TC .410 barrel, but then, it reaches out 25 yards or so with the choke in place. I rolled a cotton tail with it at 15 or so yards a few days ago, first running rabbit I've ever taken with a handgun. :D The TC will handle .44 mag level loads I woundn't try in the Judge. Not sure what they think +P is in .45 Colt, but I wouldn't push things with it. No need to worry about such loads or pattern for home defense,. The judge is not marketed as the ultimate outdoor tool, it is a self defense handgun for close range, like indoors in a home. I have guns that fill that roll fine, though, not in the market for the Judge.

SgtKnuckles where exactly did you find that holtster? I have looked EVERYWHERE for one, but cannot find it. I mean $35.00 to your door is a VERY GOOD price, in my book!

Now, I have a 4 in barrel, so maybe this holster would not do for me, but the concept of having 6 rounds to spare attached to the holster I think is a good idea.

Please let me know.....

I just got my copy of Shooting Times, and lo and behold on the cover. The PT845 and THE JUDGE. The article was over 5 pages, the write up on both guns was outstanding.

I could not find a copy online to link too. But if you see Shooting Times Magazine, pick up a copy and read up on the new 800 series, and the progression of THE JUDGE, (and why it got THE JUDGE for a name).

Oh and they tested THE JUDGE with +p ammo too. The FPS from the 410 rds was a supprise too.

Well, I just cannot seem to get any links to work. But, I would still like to know where SgtKnuckles found that holtster.

Cannot even get the www.blackhawk.com to work. Maybe everyone else is on the website ordering goodies?

Guess I will try again in the morning.

The Sarge and I had this discussion on another board. The "Thunder 5" is long out of production, as is that holster.

Since the Judge is now available in reasonable numbers, perhaps the holster makers will pick up on it. I currently have my 4" UltraLite in an Uncle Miles Sidekick, size 3, that I got from the FFL that processed the transfer. Not perfect, but it works.

Here is a link to a holster maker that works with the Judge:

http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/

No personal experience with them, just found in another thread while I was searching.

Okay, I am an idiot! Went down to Bass Pro Shops yesterday, and found a holster that handles this gun really well. At least now I can have it in a holster, and not just laying out on the bedside table.

I still really want to have 5 or 6 reload shells available on the outside of the holster, but can wait until they are available. When that time comes, this holster will also fit my S&W Model 10!

Thanks to all who responded to my plea! You guys are SO GREAT!

By the way, the holster that I bought is a Blackhawk Med-Lrg Frame dbl action. It says on the box that it fits 2 1/2 cyl Judge. On the back it is Blackhawk size 2.

Don't believe the fps in the Shooting Times article, as I think they mislead. The Velocity column is labeled "Velocity (fps) (nominal)" and the numbers exactly match the published velocities for the rounds I have data for (suspicious). The numbers seem way too high for a short barrel and don't jibe with the numbers others have posted here.

I can understand not wanting to chronograph them though -- may blow the skyscreens apart if the pattern is too big. I'd risk chronoing the OOO loads, but perhaps none of the others. I think it would have been better to just leave the velocity column off than to publish factory numbers which don't really apply. Dick Metcalf should know better.

The 45 COlt rounds appear to have been chronographed and are consistent.

i'm not sure if it's been told already but that gun is displayed in the new max payne movie, it's displayed as a handcannon, it absolutely destroys everything
nothing comparable to any 410 damage i've seen

I purchased a Judge for my wife for home defense. If she shoots someone with number 4 shot he'll be learning braille at the State Home for the Innocent while singing falsetto in the prison choir because at home confrontation ranges the Judge will put pellets from eyeball to testicle. I'm a career Army officer and have been shot. I didn't like it, it hurt and I wouldn't want it to happen again, but i can conceive of being shot again with ball. I can't conceive of the type of damage this little gun would do to me. When I come home from a trip I text message my wife, "Don't shoot, it's me!"

My brother has had a Judge on order for about 6 months now (3" chamber, 4" bbl, s.s.) he's been pretty excited about it, he ordered it to use for a home defense weapon, and I would imagine a 3" buckshot load would do the job on an intruder 10 or 12 feet away in your bedroom. The dealer told me has about 8 people on a waiting list for them, and has sold a bunch, without any complaints. I guess the idea of the gun isn't to have a gun that will do something that another gun can't do, it's to have something different..or "neat". I'd say the Judge is a pretty nifty revolver, if I found a good buy, I'd take it, so far I've been pretty happy with the Taurus revolvers I've aquired, so I have no reason to feel otherwise, so far :) When he gets it, I'll give it a try &report back here with how it went, they sure are cool looking.
