Had a chance today to handle both a Taurus PT111 and a Springfield XD Service Model. Didn't get to fire but I got to hold in my hand and both feel pretty godd. Didn't get to take any shot's with it though today, maybe in the future.

Since i really only got to handle it a little bit but not fire I can only make a few observations.

Both feel pretty good but the Taurus PT111 was a bit smaller so it seemed like when I get a CCW in the future it would make a bit better carry weapon. Plus it was cheaper to boot which makes it attractive as well. Both took 9mm.

Anyone know much about them having fired them or anything? Just holding them it is kind of hard to figure which would end up the more reliable, accurate, etc. And just holding it both felt equally good. And I don't really know much about Taurus or the brand in general.

Thoughts on which one to go for?

lots of people will probably bash taurus, but personally I have never had a problem with one, though admittedly the tauri I have owned have been revolvers. Having said that, I have two xd's, and if it were my money that is what I would go for. Both have been utterly reliable and are exceptionally accurate for a duty type weapon. In fact, my service model will compete quite well with most of my 1911's.

When I have more money to spend I will see if they have any for rent so I can put a few rounds through each.

Something about the springfield draws me to it. But the Tarus is considerably cheaper and is a bit smaller for concealed carry when I get a permit for it.

Had a PT 140...customer service totally sucked when the slide-stop pin sheared off.

Have an XD...love it!

Get the .40 cal and buy a drop-in barrel for 9mm...practice cheaply!!!!

First of all, I won't bash Taurus. I have owned several of their revolvers over the years and have liked all of them. I still have three of their small revolvers, an 85, a 617 and an 851. They are great little revolvers IMO and a good value. I pocket carry the 851 regularly. I like the looks of some of their pistols as well. The Milleniums are nice for CCW, easy to carry and conceal.

I got the chance to shoot one of the Milleniums at the range about a month ago. Met a guy there that used one for his main CCW weapon. I shot about 20 rounds through it. I really did not like the trigger on it. If I shot it all the time, it might be different. I like the trigger on the XD much better. I let him shoot my XDs, I had the service model and sub compact with me, both 40 caliber, and he liked them a lot. He left the range that day thinking his next gun would be the XD sub compact.

If I could only buy one of them, it would be the XD. If I could buy two, it would be two XDs!:D

I went through the same decision process last year, and ended up buying a stainless 9 mm Millennium Pro, manufactured in 2004. I have several hundred rounds through it by now, and have had zero defects or problems.

I had the opportunity to shoot both the Pro and an XD micro. To my own personal taste, the XD felt clunkier and less smooth and ergonomic than the Pro. The Pro definitely drew easier from the holster due to the more rounded edges on the slide and frame and was also somewhat smaller for concealed carry. In my area at the time, there was about a $ 100 price differential in favor of the Pro. Having heard some issues about the blued XD finish, I was contemplating a stainless XD, but no one had one in my area and all the distributors did not expect any for several months.

Since I also often carry an AMT DAO Backup in 9mm, with the long 22 pound trigger pull, the Pro trigger pull does not bother me one bit!

I have shot the Springfield XD in every caliber available and a Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro in .45acp. After shooting several of boxes through both, I bought a Taurus. It shot as accurately as the Springer and felt much better in my hand. I personally like the style of the Taurus better than the XD and it was substantially cheaper. Some 2000+ rounds later I still fell the Taurus is the better deal.:D

I can only provide one datapoint on the Millennium Pro. My PT-745 is completely reliable and sufficiently accurate. The only drawback is DAO, but I can live with it. This gun is small enough and light enough that I don't carry my P-32 anymore, even at home when I'm wearing shorts.

I've owned several XD's and they were great but I either sold or traded them away. I picked up a Taurus PT145 a few weeks ago and this thing impresses the hell out of me and it's definitely a keeper.
Dollar for dollar, I think the Taurus offers a product that's as good but for less money.

I would go with the XD. I have owned several Taurus's over the years and I can't seem to get over the fact the feel cheap to me. It also bothers me that all there guns are only shipped with 1 magazine....just my hang up though:uhoh:

Kimbers only come with one mag too.

Taurus. My first one was the PT111Ti. It's my primary carry. My 24/7 9mm is my bedside gun. My next gun will be a Taurus PT911. Obviously I like Taurus.

I have handled, but not fired the XD9. Nowhere near the quality or value, at least for me.

The answer is in the trigger time. Which works best for you?
I own both, and the XD is more of a natural pointer for me.
Oh, and check out the XD subcompact if the Service is too large for your purposes.

For you guys who own a Taurus Mil Pro - what are you using as a holster. I have a PT145 Mil Pro coming soon and need to find an IWB holster, tuckable would be a plus.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I thought holster choices/availability would be applicable.

Im thinking on it still. I like the XD better but the Taurus wasn't that far off. Maybe I just like the idea of a springfield lol. Both felt fairly equally well in my hand. If there was no price difference i'd probably not even bother debating it and get teh XD

The Taurus though still feels equally well in hand and is considerably cheaper. Though personally if people can conceal a 1911 I am sure ican conceal a XD. Or jsut get the sub compact at a later date if I really like the service model lol.

Im hoping I can maybe get 150 or 200 for the two hand guns I have now for a trade and that should help with the price some. Maybe even see if they want one or two of my rifles since hand guns appeal to me more anyway. Two of them I dont really use much anyway so why not I guess.

Have to see how it turns out but im leaning in favor of the XD, only thing holding me back is the 520 dollar ticket price. Maybe when i have some money I can see if they have one of each for rent and see if I can put a few rounds through.

i have had several experiences with taurus over the years but I personally am in love with my xd service model in od green and .40cal. It feels great and is the best pistol I have ever owned i love it. One thing that drew me was the 20,000 torture test that they did on the xd. I have never seen that done on a taurus!

Im glad to hear good things about the XD as its the one I would prefer. I am going to go 9mm though. Ammo is a bit cheaper to practice on and the range near me doesn't allow reloaded ammo. Even if they did 9mm is still cheaper and decent enough to do the job.

Course I could always grow a nice collection of XD's in various sizes and calibers

Buy what you like-in a week you'll have forgotten the price, and you may love that gun forever.

I think i'll be treting myself to an XD unless something else catchs my eye to drool over. Now al lI need is a job and some money lol.

Been seriously thinking of offering them some of the guns I have now and dont really use for it since it is something I owuld use quite a bit. No where down here to shoot rifles anyway and in truth I prefer handguns anyway. So I don't really have much to loose by trading in my two handguns I have now (both of which arn't exactly great) and my two .22 rifles. After that it should either cover it of bring it pretty darn close.

I sold an XD40 so I could buy a Taurus 24/7 in .45. I already had the Taurus PT145 Millennium Pro, and found it to be extremely comfortable to shoot and very reliable. When Wisconsin gets concealed carry, I'll carry it. For work, I'll be using the 24/7 IF I can find a holster for it that will satisfy my work requirements.

I had an XD-40 Service and loved the gun but it was really clunky to carry. Researched the heck out of what I wanted in a dedicated CCW firearm. I decided I wanted a DA, manual safety, higher than lower capacity, 40 or 45 cal., and compact meaning thin and shorter barrel. After a lot of looking, holding, etc I purchased a PT-140 Mill Pro. I am very happy with my choice. As a CCW it is exactly what I was looking for...10 rounds, long trigger pull, manual safety. The XD is a great all around firearm for occassional carry and has a nicer trigger (smoother with a shorter pull) than the Mill. Pro. But, I wanted a longer trigger for ccw. The trigger is really quite nice, as nice as a trigger job on a Ruger wheelgun I had done. In fact, the only reason the Mill Pro was an option was because the trigger was as nice as it is. I carry it in a Tucker Texas Heritage and the shorter barrel, compared to the XD Service makes a big difference. I'll try to post some pics after I get my shutters up.
