It should be able to handle the factory loads (even from CorBon), but just exactly how hot are your reloads? How much hotter than factory are you wanting to get?

You may want to give WildAlaska a PM. He reports a high number of Raging Bulls in .44 and .454 are returned to Taurus for repair. You may be better off with another maker's product. Or get one, but be prepared to take advantage of Taurus' Lifetime Warrantee.

I've always felt Taurus offers a good value for the money, but I've noticed it doesn't take long to develop cylinder play if you're working with some hot loads. Both my M669 and M44 have some cylinder play... the only Taurus revolver I have that doesn't is my M85 (I don't shoot much +P from it). Both the .357 and .44 have seen some seriously hot loads from them.
The side-to-side movement of the cylinder doesn't seem to affect accuracy or reliability, but it certainly doesn't give me the same satisfaction of the tight cylinder of my S&W 686.

I've never hesitated to recommend a Taurus in .38 special to anyone on a budget... but those higher pressure rounds such as the .454 might prove to be a challenge for a Taurus. :(

I have a ''Raging Lunatic'' and bought it used ... it is not actually that cheap a gun at all. I love it .. but do wonder when I poop off some hot 300 grain Hornady loads, just how well it'll stand up to the immense punishment. It is fine so far but I got a SRH also in .454 and being a fan of Ruger ruggedness and toughness .. feel a tad less bothered when shooting the biggest loads in that.

I think much depends on volume throughput ..... and I'd expect, round for round ... to see the Ruger staying tight longer than the RB. That said, yeah, the Taurus will take it ... it is still a tough gun.

For a few bucks more, shop around get the Ruger, trust me you will be happier its a lot tougher.....and if ya cant get em close in price let me know...

I have never hestited to sell some of the smaller caliber Tauruses...but we dont sell RRaging Bulls...better buyers be po'd at Taurus instead of me.

I have had my Raging Bull in 454 for 2 years now and have shot hundreds of full power loads and uncountable numbers of 45 Colts through it and it remains one of my most accurate revolvers.
I have never had one problem with it.

Thanks for the info

I was just wondering if the Tauraus or Ruger for that matter can handle the same pressures as the Magnum research or fredom arms 454 casull's.

Thanks for the replies and information

Ive had my my raging bull for almost 2 years have ran hundreds of hot hand loads through it and never had so much as a hick-up.Nice handling and accurate.Plus it kicks less than ruger thanks to the porting.Dont get me wrong nothing wrong with ruger, just cant find anything wrong with taurus.

General opinion would seem to rate the Freedom Arms about tops for shere strength ... but I don't think the Ruger falls too far behind that.

The Taurus I think may not achieve quite the longevity of these ... but mine has a long way to go yet methinks before it is ''spent''! :D
