Taurus Raging Bull

Also this gun would be used for handgun hunting, I normally use one of my .44 mags but Im wanting to buy a different caliber, I do reload for .45 colt so the cassull shouldnt be a problem. Another use for this gun would be to scare all the 9mm,.40 cal, and .45 acp guys at the range. :)

Well, I for one don't advocate its use for the latter purpose, no matter how obnoxious they might be. And I have no use nor personal experience for the Raging Bull, but I have talked with several owners and they do give the gun a clean bill of health.

For whatever my opinion might be worth.

I fully support your decision to use the Bull to scare the mall ninjas.
Sometimes, it's fun to frighten the youngsters.

I have some loads for my .44 Mag that push a 180 grain Hornady XTP over 1800 FPS from a 7.5" barrel.
When fired from my 4" Taurus .44 Mag, they sound like my .444 Marlin Outfitter going off.

Makes the bones in your face vibrate.

I have an m44. It's a 44 mag built on the raging line but not sold as a raging for some reason...supposedly. It is very accurate and extremely pleasant to shoot. The ported barrel really does change EVERYTHING. It out performs the ruger SBH and the 629 I had by a lot, which is probably me being more steady due to the porting taking recoil down. I would have no reservations picking one up if I needed another big revolver. I actually think it would be my preference. Definately raging series over tracker series. Tracker guns tend to have stiffer springs and worse triggers from what limited experience I have with trackers.

A 3rd cousin of mine relied heavily on his 454'bull when working the Alaskan pipeline as a cook. Previous cook was victim of polar bear attack at the trash can. I never got the pleasure of touching that one off.

I love my M44. It's a sweet shooter.
At the time I bought it, they were being hand fitted at the factory and had sweet actions.
Don't know if that is still the case.
Mine is also not only ported, but about the last inch of barrel is an expansion chamber compensator. It's very mild with hot loads. The higher the pressure, the sweeter it shoots.

A friend of mine has two of them in .44 which I've shot a few times and enjoyed. He is pretty happy with them. I fired a .454 several years ago and it wasn't horrendous in the recoil department but the concussion was quite impressive. Be sure and handle it first, it's a big gun.

Freedom arms vs Taurus is a lot like Lamborghini vs Chevy pickup. Nothing too fancy about the Taurus or the Chevy but they work reliably for a whole bunch of years of use and abuse. The the FA or the Lamborghini is very nice and gets the job done for sure but for a tool your getting more bang for the buck from Taurus. The FA is quite nice but the ones I have seen have been cost prohibitive...just like those lambos.

Pic of mine. I haven't ran any hand loads thru it yet as i have plenty of hornady ones left.

But from the 100 rounds or so i've put thru it I haven't had a single issue. But like many others, i bought it solely to scare people whenever i decide go to a public range.

I have not had any experience with Taurus but some of my friends have with mixed results. The raging bull seems ok from what I hear but I can attest that the Freedom Arms is a work of art. Mine has worked without a flaw for 14 years.

JMO here.

Taurus Raging NO

460 magnum X Frame....... yep. The 5" version is my favorite and you open up more options for not that much more money. Good luck.

Don't forget the Ruger Super Redhawk. They have the Alaskan with a 2.5" barrel and the full size with a 7.5" barrel. The Ruger 454 casull is also a 6 shot. The Ruger price is closer to the Taurus then the Freedom Arms.

But, the SRH is so damned fugly.

I remember when conventional wisdom said you couldn't chamber a DA revolver for .454 Casull.
Then, Taurus built the RB.
Then, Ruger followed suit.
Then, Smith came out with the X frame monstrosity in .500 and the. .460.

As much as I love bigger/badder, .44 mag and .45 Colt will handle all my handgun hunting needs.

+1'on the work of art that is a Freedom Arms revolver.
Very nice. As accurate as a high quality rifle.

I had a .454 Raging Bull for years, heard all the negative BS that people had to say. I never had one problem with mine. I loaded rounds from 240 grs. all the way to 405 grs. and the gun handled them all without any problems.

The RB liked bullets in the 300 gr. range with H110 powder, good medium round that you could shoot all day long. Between those loads, the grip and the ported barrel its a comfortable pistol to shoot.

I would've kept it but I used the money to buy my 500 S&W.
