Went to Big5 to pick up some .380 ammo. I have been buying one box at a time due to the extremely high prices and to try to ease the pain. One box of Sig Sauer 100gr .380 was $25.00 out the door. That's it! I am going to pick up some dies for my press and start reloading in that caliber. Even if I was going to buy them online, you still have shipping fees which usually run around $10.00-$12.00 dollars. I reload in every other caliber, so I will just add this into my reloading routine. Plus with these new stupid Ca laws that are going to take affect next year is another motivation to just keep on reloading in every caliber.

Yeah, I'm completely sure you can load your .380 Auto ammo for way less than $25/box. It's amazing how much .380 ACP and .32 ACP ammo now costs.

I load .380 for super cheap. Free lead for casting. Free cases. 3#'s of powder that a buddy gave me.

I use a 120gr mold (drops 124gr), that shoot absolutely great.

.380 is one you can REALLY save some money reloading. The brass is a bit tough to get sometimes. I've got loads of 9mm, I can buy it for 20 cents a round, I can still do better reloading but at that price, tough to justify unless you're already set with press and dies.

What took you so long to decide to do it?:D
The first thing I do when I get a new firearm is get a set of dies coming if I do not already have a set provided it can be reloaded. Some of my firearms have never seen a factory round ever. Then at least I have some data worked up to use and dies and such if ever the ammo dries up or gets too expensive. Ammo would NEVER do that would it.:banghead:

Yeah, brass can be tough to find at times. I've cut down .223 brass and made .380 brass out of it.

I'm always surprised by people who reload one caliber, but not another.
I got hooked in a hurry....as soon as I was setup to reload, I never bought another box of factory ammo!
Er.....except 22s

Hornady 90 gr XTP is one of the more expensive bullets. For practice you can purchase a lot cheaper. Look for some plated bullets at Barry's or X-treame.

I ,load for my LCP with the following;

Range brass= free
Rainier Lead free 100g bullets from Midway, usually $10 per 100
W231 powder, and at 2.7g I guess I could load thousands from one pound

I would guess I have $13 per 100 rounds in my .380's and they shoot really nice.

With handgun ammo I think my greatest savings comes from loading .45 Colt ammo. After that I think it's .32 ACP or maybe 38 S&W, I haven't run the numbers in a long time. I'm sure about the .45 Colt since factory ammo is ~$50/box.

I buy most of my bullets thru X-treme. They seemed to be the most reasonable for copper plated bullets. I don't like shooting lead. Too smokey.

Sell your 380 and buy a 9mm, problem solved.
I have a 9mm as well. Reload this caliper and .45's at the moment, until I pick up a .357 revolver. I have a bunch of brass for that too. The funny thing is I got lectured at my range for not marking my brass. There brass cops there. At least some of the guys at the counter are. So now I mark my brass and pick up a little bit extra since my brass fly's out down range in which I can't recover.

Dang, that's not cheap either

Price a box of high quality ammo using the XTP bullet .... then come back and tel me that ain't cheap ....

You guys missed my point altogether .... I am loading High quality defense style ammo using one of the "more" proven bullets to expand at .380 velocity ...

Please tell me you can beat that price for Good ammo .... I ain't talking cheap plated plinking ammo ....

I can load cheap plinking for a lot less than $13 ... I can load the Berry 100 Gr HB, Titegroup & SB primer for <$6.50 a box 50 .....

Oh I know. That's all I carry for self defense. I guess I'm so used to loading cast now. But even loading XTP for my .380, it was wrong $20/100

I'm not sure if it's a typo or what but the proper word is "caliber" not "caliper"......We know what you mean but it might be confusing to others.

I'll repeat what's been said above.....if I get a new caliber I'll get the reloading stuff for it too....and when you reload you can load premium ammo for what the cheap blasting ammo costs.

Those tiny bullets and cases are a challenge to reload too!

I save on everything I load, though the margin is tight on 9mm and .223.

But for .380, .38spl, .357, .44mag, .243, 30-06 and even 30-30, I do save a good bit.

I'm getting ready to add .45acp and .40 to my list. I'm sure I can save with .45acp but .40 might be a wash.

JW ... do you mind sharing where you can find the 90 gr XTP below $16.25 + shipping... ??

Bought them from a local store. No shipping cost. That's why I always try to support local shops.

At the Bass Pro here, they had them for like $20/100 (When I bought them). Military discount shopping local. Put them at $18/100.

Cost to reload 380 range/plinking ammo

I handload my 380 range/plinking ammo and purchase commercial defense ammo. For range ammo, I am using 4.0 gr Autocomp, CCI SP primers, and Berry's 100 gr HBRN bullets. This is not some special load, just what I am currently using. Assuming range pickup brass and today's prices at powdervalley.com and berrys.com, the cost per 50 round box is $6.25.
I included hazmat and shipping costs from powdervalley.com for 8lb powder and 14 boxes of primers. Berry's ships for free.
