The .45 acp has nothing over the 9mm that's a fact.

I could care less that the marines went back to a .45. There not using it to shoot through barriers to kill people.

One good thing about these threads, you usually get some memorable quotes. Between the "interesting" grammar and the uninformed claims, I may have to change my sig line. This is the funniest quote I've seen on the internet in a LONG time!

What do you believe that the Marines do? You don't think the people shooting back at the Marines are smart enough to seek cover?

You may want to do a little research into the mission of MARSOC (Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command), who specified the .45.

I work in classification at a prison and through the years between my current job and as a Corrections Officer I've had the opportunity to see quite a few bullet wounds. Lots of offenders with 9mm holes from local pd's walking around. The worse I saw was a guy in a wheelchair. Sheriff got him with a .45....Colt that is. Not ACP.

My xdm 45 holds 13 +1. And that's the compact model.
My Sig p225 9mm holds 8+1. My p220s and 1911s hold 7/8+1 in .45.

The capacity argument is a bit of a red herring.

Both rounds have their place and their merits. And limitations.

Both are more effective than a point-ed stick.

Can we just all agree that a 12ga slug beats the heck out of a puny little .45 or 9mm already?

I'm seriously right handed, can't do diddly with my left. So, for me - .45 for my right hand, 9mm for my left hand. Kinda evens out that way!

Yes, it's called momentum and it leads to larger permanent wound cavities.
Sure modern 9mm ammo has gotten very good but modern 45 ammo has also reaped these benefits. better 9mm ammo will expand to .65" to .7" and penetrate 12"+ the better 45 ammo will penetrate to the same depth while expanding to .9" to 1.0".

Carry what you want I do. some days it's a 45, some a 9mm, mostly it's just a 5 shot 38.

I have only 9mm and 45cal. They both work for their intended purposes. I haven't been able to shoot 2 guys doing the same crime at the same time in order to discern which one hit the ground faster, "thank God".
I carry the 9 when I want a slimmer gun with more ammo, than the 45. I keep a 45 by the bed, just because. But there is a 9mm in the drawer, same reason. If the 45 didn't penetrate the car door, it probably was because it was a hollow point. 'doing it's job". The 9mm on the other hand may have not been.
I don't think we have that information. The owner of the 45, should have aimed higher.
No 1 bullet is going to be right for every situation, I carry a 2nd mag of FMJ ammo in case of barriers. Hopefully I would have time to switch mags if I ever needed that one, or have sized up the situation prior to approaching a suspect in a vehicle.
Don't forget that many LEO's are not gun guys.

The two cops trying to penetrate a tractor trailer cab with handguns- well- I believe every police car should have an AR with that dreaded penetrating 62 gr stuff;)

I believe they should have one, as long as I (as a plain old citizen) can as well.

FWIW, I read this morning of one local police angency moving from .40 to .45.

Two others going back to 9mm.

Seems to be a little trend away from .40.

I carry the 9 when I want a slimmer gun with more ammo, than the 45." [George Burns]

I carry the 45 (1911) when I want a slimmer gun with less ammo, than the 9.

There is a reason why so many law enforcement agencies have gone to the .357 sig and or back to the 9mm.

There aren't many agencies rushing to the .357 Sig, and the transition back to 9mm (mostly from the .40 S&W) by agencies has been primarily cost driven, but also influenced by the fact their officers (non-shooters, women, and pansies) couldn't shoot the .45 well.

Here is a fact regarding expansion in tissue: the .45acp doesn't get smaller, the 9mm MIGHT expand. I have seen well over 100 shootings with handguns, the 9mm is not a devastating round, but it does generally have a capacity advantage.

So, I'm pleased to announce women, pansies, and limp wristed males who can't handle the .45's recoil have the option of choosing the marginal 9mm round. They do not, however, have the option of convincing the "been there, done that" crowd that the 9mm defies the laws of physics and smokes the .45acp.

Also, allegedly owning two $2k 1911's doesn't mean diddly. The fact that you dumped $2k into a Kimber tells me you know little about firearms, though.

I love my .45 and I like knocking down steel targets with more authority than the "9 guys". But my every day carry has always been a .38 snub non +P and my new super slim summer carry gun is a very small (6+1) 9mm with +P ammo. My backwoods gun is a .357 loaded with 180,s. All good weapons for me and I don't feel "undergunned" with any of them. I like the option of more than one tool. I would never even knock the 380 I am just glad there are those of us that carry or at least have an interest in firearms.

The 45ACP provides a nice starting point for the 460 Rowland, which I would trust against any size predator.
The 9mm provides a nice starting point for the Federal 9BPLE, which has a street record on the street that speaks for itself.

I like them both.

After reading argument after argument about .45 vs 9mm I got really bummed out and confused. So until I get a definitive answer from someone in the know, I'm going back to my slingshot and marbles..... .50cal marbles.

I have 9, .40 , .45 acp , 9 mm mak, .357 mag and 7.62 x 25 tok. I love them all but the .45 ranks no 1 in my opinion. I dont shoot the .45 ACP oftern bec of cost.

Didn't read all of this naturally, but I would take bigger caliber all day IF I had to use non expanding ammunition. Ball 45 is just plain better than ball anything smaller. Good hollow points make the 9mm etc much more interesting, especially for concealed carry in normal situations. Capacity, size, shoot ability, adequate performance come into play.

Big heavy gun vs smaller and lighter. I bet most people go for the one that is easiest for them to shoot well AND always carry.

I would take either one that I could shoot.

Threads like this make me want to say things to get purposefully banned so I no longer have to read this b.s. in my spare time.

I go to my fitness forum, and its the same thing, "more weight is better" then "no, less weight is better". Then my gun forum, " more weight of the bullet" then "no, less weight of the bullet". Then my car forum, "more displacement is better y'all" then "no, small displacement, idiot". Then my cooking forum "bigger cakes and cookies taste better" then "no, smaller baked goods are best".

How bout somebody just tests out either to put me out if my misery on this continual argument....
