The best for EDC revolver ever?

I would argue that the revolver qualifying most as being the "best ever" for edc is the original Colt Cobra/Agent. Chambered in .38 Special; weighing no more than a 5-shot S&W "Airweight"; blessed with a great trigger pull in both sa and da modes; having a six round capacity and being beautifully finished and exhibiting superb workmanship, no other revolver comes close imo. Any other challengers to the "throne"?

Yeah, I could agree with that Colt.

But, I'd be more inclined to vote for the 3" S&W Model 13, WIth a slick trigger, maybe none better.

or, maybe even the "new" King Cobra. I think mine would stand up to any others as worthy of competing for a best revolver for EDC carry.

I do agree, six is better than five. Yes, the Model 13 and the new KC are considerably heavier. But then, some of us like to carry a sidearm in a holster on the belt.

I sold way too many Taurus revolvers back in the day to recommend them for anything serious.

I love the Model 13 and the 65 or the Ruger SP/GP series for this role. They are heavier, but I would rather wear a belt and use a good holster than compromise on weight. I can also shoot them with better accuracy than light weight guns. I do understand why light weight guns are appealing, but an all steel gun works better for me.

This is pretty close to my perfect EDC revolver:

Not jumping on the Taurus bandwagon, but my 1992 stainless Model 85 was a superb revolver, one I really wished I'd hung on to-- easily better than many '90s S&W J-frames (the Bangor Punta era was sad)..

But I totally feel the love for the 13 (and the 65, though I never owned one).

Three inch barrel is a sweet spot for an EDC revolver.

Although my 2.5" Model 66-4 was pretty awesome.

I've got both guns mentioned.
And a couple others.
The Colt Cobra weight is not even close to as light as my 642 Airweight.
If I'm going to EDC a revolver it's the Airweight going in my pocket.

Since my experience with a variety of guns that fit this category is limited to only Smith & Wessons I can’t really say what’s best on a grand scale. I do have a Colt’s Detective Special, but it’s not a “carry gun” for me. I have it because I have always wanted one.
Of the S&W guns I have owned that I would consider “Every Day Carry” my “best” would be my S&W 442-1.

I carried a model 36 for a bug and off duty for at least 20 years. Over time, i tried a Colt Detective and Colt Agent, they were slightly thicker but not to bad. Both began to have timing issues after a couple thousand rounds. Not a big deal when you could find a gunsmith who knew how to keep them up.gave the dick special to oldest daughter for home defense and sold the agent long ago. Still have the 36

My LCR is my favorite. It's usually carried in a cargo pocket. It has the best trigger of any snubby I've shot.

The S&W 642 is in my back pocket on walks.

I've owned a bunch of Taurus Model 85's and carried them. The one I happen to own now is just for practice, though. It's steel and noticeably heavy to carry.

That is a perfect example of a EDC in my book as well. A very important revolver to S&W collectors as well. Wish I could find one myself. Glad to see you posted it!

I carry a 442 as my EDC as well, because I cannot find a S&W Model 13-2 3 inch as posted above!

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the SP101 yet.

I regularly carry my .32 magnum SP101 in a Bianchi pancake holster. It’s well balanced with its 3” barrel and points naturally. I like the adjustable rear sight also. The stainless construction and easy disassembly is a nice feature in Florida. And having an extra shot with the .32 magnum chambering is always nice. The gun is cheap to reload for and brass lasts a long time. I can chose 3 power levels with .32 S&W, .32 S&W long, .32 H&R magnum and also a bonus caliber of .32 acp. The light recoil means I hit what I’m aiming at and practice with it frequently.

it’s the best EDC revolver for me at least.

To carry on your person iwb etc I'd say the S$W model 12. K frame light weight snub.

I wish someone would make a clone, or better yet, bring it back into production.

I have a couple of J frames, and a Colt Agent, Cobra and DS, but those guns are still just a tad small for my hands and serious SD carry. A k frame is about perfect for average hands, IMO.

I'm not surprised - at least with respect to the .357 version that most associate with the SP.

It is pretty much heaviest-in-class for a five shot, and other guns offer another shot for not much more weight. Good gun - yes. Ideal? Probably not, IMO...

I realize that doesn't really apply in the context of .32 caliber...

IMHO the best EDC CCW revolver would be a modernized S&W I-frame (the Terrier), hammerless, made from a scandium alloy frame, titanium cylinder and chambered in 9x19mm as a 5-shot and 30 Super Carry as a 6-shot. Moonclips, because moonclips rule. With the shorter I-frame and cylinder we could put a longer ~2-3/8 inch barrel and have the same over all size of the classic 2-inch J-frame.

Colt's cylinder release goes the wrong way, will get you killed on there streets. :p

Have always been partial to S&W J frames; in particular the Models 49 and 38. My current EDC line-up includes a Model 649 and a Model 638. I have had a Colt Detective Special and a Colt Agent but never liked them as much as I liked the smaller J frames.

If I was going to move up in size and cartridge capability I would go with the Ruger Speed Six .357 Magnum.
