This one even tops the dreaded "no guns" signs we hate.

It is on the door to a bank at 16th & JFK in center city Philadelphia. It warns people that the place is being videotaped and instructs people entering to remove their sunglasses and hats.

BG response: "Umm, since I'm already planning to rob the place, I'd rather not."

 :banghead:

Well you know there are some dumb criminals out there...

More importantly though, is that people WITH sun glasses and hats may be watched much more carefully. Of course this doesnt matter if they rob the place with AK-47s.

Maybe. Even if they are, what good is it going to do the bank if the guy really is a robber? Unless the rule is enforced (and it never is at my bank), how much advanced warning is the staff going to have?

Push the silent alarm too early, and you have the cops swoop down on a guy who either can't read English, isn't paying attention to anyone but the person on the other end of his cell phone, or simply doesn't care about the request. I'm pretty sure the local PD is going to get sick of this fairly soon.

I suppose one tactic could be to print the sign thusly:

For your protection, please remove your hat and sunglasses upon entering. In the event of an incident, the police will need to identify you to rule you out as a suspect.

I still imagine compliance will be low. I suggested to the teller at my bank that the sign should be changed to "please do not rob this bank." She just laughed at me.

Ok I've Seen These signs but i wear neither hat or sunglasses i have no worries,
but lets say i walk into the bank with a jacket with the hood over my head "its Cold out" and a pair of sunglasses what can they really do? mind you i am not armed or acting in anyway out of normal just waiting in line with my check

If they wanted it to be more persuasive it could say "Remove hats and sunglasses or you will immediately be shot" :p

Along the same vein...

"Please dont use your cell phone, it interferes with our security equipment."

My bank branch for the past 25 years put up one of those signs and I ignored it. One day the guard asked to remove my sunglasses. I did, and then I walked into the railing by the manager's desk, then the little table with the pens on chains, and then tried to walk through the fake-velvet ropes they use to line folks up for the tellers.

They finally asked me to put my prescription Ray-Bans back on. :neener:

I work 1.5 blocks from the bank and don't carry my indoor glasses when I go out walking at lunchtime to get a sandwich, etc.

John...about 20/1200+

LOL!

I've never seen that sign. However, it'd be fun to show up in a ghillie suit, hat and sunglasses, and remove the hat and sunglasses upon entering.

at my favorite bank, the tellers are not even in view. You conduct business at a wall with video screens on it. for all I know, they could be on the other side of the wall, or they could be in the building next door...?

I like the bank though. Its like being in the drive thru outside. you send stuff back and forth in a tube.

One of my favorite signs (for real) was a sign the Fort Worth Police Dept. used for a while in convenience stores. It stated " Warning: These premises may be occupied by Police officers armed with shotguns. If ordered to HALT, do so immediately". They put the signs at the front door as you came in, and for the 6 months or so they used them, they shot 2-3 would be armed robbers. Robberies of convenience stores dropped to almost 0. Then the ACLU waded in and complained that most of the people that were shot during attempted holdups were minorities and therefore, the use of "shotgun squads" was discriminatory. Go figure.

They are. But they discriminate against robbers, not minorities!

I walked into a bank with a friend who is in law enforcement and was in full uniform. That includes: radio, gun, OC, cuffs etc. It also included the cap.
The teller asked my friend to remove the cap. At risk of repeating myself, he was carrying his duty gun, a Glock 23 in .40 on his belt.:scrutiny:

Reminds me of one of my favorite dumb signs, which I believe is required by law or code at elevators in many places, "In case of fire, use the stairs."

They put this sign on the GROUND floor. I've often proposed that sign be replaced with one saying, "In case of fire, use the DOOR, dipstick!":p

im sorry but this thread and many of the ideas in it are just asking too much of american society. you want people to be rational, and you want them to THINK. thats just too much

how about a sign that says,:
"NO CRIMINAL ACTIVITY: Robery and theft, assult, and other crimes are not permitted in this facillity. Vilators may be reported to law enforcement for prosecution."

then there would be no problems whatsoever.
