The Guns of Firefly?

Tonight during the Serenity special they posted Kaylee's name and it
was something like Kaylinette. It looked like they made it a Welsh name or something similar.

It's Kaywinnit Lee Frye. They also introduced her as such during the episode Shindig.

And yes, the movie is awesome.

Gets even better the second time (when you're not hyperventilating). It got a standing ovation in the theatre last night too.

What's the deal? Why are YOU seeing MY MOVIE before ME? Is this just limited release before the announced date of the 30th, and I'm screwed once again 'cause I live in this gorram hick locale?

:neener:

My apologies! Universal sent our local Browncoat fan group 100 passes to last night's press screening in San Jose, CA. Theatre was packed, and several were turned away at the door.

But hey! You only have 1 Day, 10 Hours, and 50 Minutes to go.

heh... just looked up the times at the local theater: 1:35 PM, 4:00 PM, 6:40 PM, 9:10 PM. Spoon works 'till 5. I told her I'd meet her there for the 6:40, after watching the 4. Her response? "Remember that sex you were planning on having, ever again?"

Think she's a keeper? :D

So much to keep track of. I remember that now. Thanks

I wonder how the j*ck*sses at Fox would respond about canning the show now?

"Holy #@#^!! It's Steve the Pirate!!" Sure enough, my favorite character from Dodgeball was the one flying Serenity. What a fantastic actor. They all are.

When we rented Dodgeball, I said "HEY! Honey, it's Wash!"

My wife is perhaps more obsessed with Firefly than I am now. We've been meaning to pick up an old treadmill from my sister and her husband for awhile now, so Friday night we're dropping the kids off with my parents and taking the truck up there to get the treadmill, then we'll take them to dinner and out to see Serenity. They're going to love it.
It's not showing at the best theater in town, but that's OK. I'm going to pre-order tickets; I'm not at all sure whether the opening night will be deserted or sold out early. I do think it's going to build until it shocks the movie moguls.

Woot--just saw it. It rocked!

Special Guests were Kaylee and River (Jewel Staite and Summer Glau). Got some crappy pics of the Q&A afterwards.

I would have asked what their favorite gun to use in the flick, but the line got long quick with geeks asking "why did the Serenity just digitally upload the information during the battle?" and "can I have a hug". Mo Rons.

Go see it for Jane's HK. I think Mal uses a mod'ed AR-180. No other spoilers!

(Oh, and for younger kids it might be a little intense at times--no more so than the last Star Wars, probably less so than the latest Batman. I'm pretty careful what I let my kids watch, but I'd let the 11 see it, no problem. Maybe the 7 year old, maybe not.)

antsy

Watched the last episode "Objects in Space" on the DVD
with my grandson last night. Serenity opens friday--an aeon
from now it seems. Got my tan pants and brown shirt ready!

THE Serenity? Those weren't even real Browncoats. You should have shoved them out of the way and asked your question.

Probably, but they didn't survive the other fans "showing them the right of things" :p

I had a gaggle of teenage girls (not exactly the target audience) sitting behind me in the theater. I would have asked them if they liked it but I had my GF with me and I was in no mood to see her rendition of "River beats up Jayne" :p

Has anyone seen the movie who didn't think it was great?
Joss did the unthinkable towards the end.

Everyone I've spoken to liked the plot though.

I'll go out on a limb and say I did not think it was unthinkable. In fact, I thought it made the movie one of the realistic adventure films I've seen. In the situation they were in (River aside) it's very likely in real life more than one of them would have bought the farm.

I knew very little about the movie or series but for some reason I was really excited about the movie. Went to see it 2nd day out and it was awesome! Love the freedom theme of it. The movie is downright anti-communist/anti-socialist. And it was fun and entertaining.

I have access to a rapid prototype printer. If you don't know what in is, just know that I can make any shape of an object imaginable. Make a cast of it and then into solid plastic.

My goal right now is to recreate MAL's gun. But at the moment I don't have enough pictures or information on the gun. The angled handle says it can't be a common civil war era revolver. The hexagon or octogon barrel says its a navy colt. What I want to do is 2 types of replica's, one to attach to the original revolver that Mal's gun is based off of. And the other is full replica from scratch, mold and all, working too (hammer pulled back and working with trigger, a capacitive led flash in the barrel). I build in CAD, then take it to the printer, then make a cast from the printed part.

So I call upon any1 reading this post to post lateral pictures of MAL (I'm having a hard time finding them). And if anyone knows of the exact dimension or mal's gun or the original the gun is based off of. I'll take any information to make replicas as close as possible to the series/movie!

propGuy --

there's some other pictures of Mal's piece early in this thread -- somewhere in the first couple pages I think. The best one I ever was over at some prop board or another.. a feller had had the whole thing reproduced to a T --

Ah -- hereyago --

Thread is here

NOW.. all that said -- if you are seriously thinking about doing some kind of repro, might I humbly ask that instead of blinkies, you look into making a hollow body brass cast we could buy them from you and stick real snubbies into like the original? :)

Mal's gun

Good photo. The Dark House Comics three-parter
that fills in the gap between the end of Firefly
and the start of Serenity shows Mal's gun with
a rod under the barrel (unlike ANY of the photos).
Guess the illustrator used a cap'n'ball as a model.
