This question has probably been asked and answered before so I'll apologize beforehand for beating a dead horse. But...

Does anyone know what carbine Shepard Book is shooting in "War Stories"? Didn't recognize it when I saw it and got curious.

I think it was a Mag-Tech carbine.

oh gawd i love firefly

and i hate the idiots at fox who showed the episodes so badly out of order that nothing made sense. the worst idiot producer of even those cheesy mexican telenovellas would have done better than those morons.

that said, what a bunch of cool guns! i just watched its brief lifespan on dvd (ironic, isn't it, that the show is named firefly) and was deeply impressed by the amount of sheer variety in arms!

uber-shorty lever action (did people ever really shorten these guns?)
some sort of wierd revolver type gun that seems to likely accept magazines or cylinder swaps
vera - silver m16 from heaven
a lot of miltia guns - ak, akm, ak74
a bunch of euro "sub" guns, including uzi and i think i might have seen a scorpion (yuck)
shotguns! boy what a lot of shotguns!
sheperd kneecapping with a painball gun (boy that was obvious but still cool)
wash getting shot in the butt (they actually shot at the guy?!!)
a SAW mounted in a VERY uncomfortable way
a laser pistol - awesome (it has both the usual burst and the continuous beam.. which very few "laser" guns have in other shows) until the guy pulls the trigger on like the 6th shot and the gun says, "check battery" hehe
sonic guns! didn't the 3rd reich experiment with these things?
derringers and a lot of barrett type sniper rifles.

now i'm going to buy serenity, and join the ranks of those who agree that the general public just can't have anything nice. it is an american disgrace that we ditch shows like firefly which are actually well thought out and detailed in favor of brain dead peeping tom crap like survivor and what not.

i have never watched more than a few minutes of any reality show, and never will.... unless they drop Jayne in with a bunch of them, and then I"m going to watch the party..heheh

I especially love how Jayne is such an unabashed, selfish, pig. Who apparently spends all his money on guns, since both his wardrobe and diet leave quite a bit to be desired (ever notice how he eats other people's leftovers a lot? or that his clothes look like they were all purchased out of a cheaper than dirt catalog?)

Shatner did a "Glock Leg" in an old blooper...

Random useless factoid: Jayne's favorite gun, 'Vera' was originally designed and used in the Eddie Murphy/William Shatner movie 'Showtime.' I've never seen it, and heard it's really not worth bothering with. But it is a bit of trivia you can use to impress other Firefly nerds.

:D

There's a blooper clip I'd really like to get hold of that I remember seeing, of William Shatner, with his old 'T.J. Hooker' show, inadvertently demonstrating firearm safety.

Tried to draw his blank-firing gun with finger in trigger guard, got himself in the leg with the blank, limped off the set. Beautiful. :D

I would like to thank you all for posting this thread. I don't receive any televison channels so I missed this. Based on this thread I bought the series and am recommending it to friends. I can't believe they cancelled this show.

I watched the show when it was on fox and the seccond they sold the box set i bought it...unfortunately i have to wait to get "serenity" untill next pay check.

There was an article on the Serenity DVD is the last EW. Joss Wheldon basically said that the story was over and the studio was not interested in another movie. Like many good shows (and movies), not enough people were interested.

My wife said something about getting my present on Sunday. I joked that I was going to get her Serenity. (I wasn't, but I've had it pre-ordered since November at Amazon.com.)

Her face fell, and she asked if I'd bought it. I had to tell her I had. Turns out that was going to be my Christmas present.

I think I'm getting a security cabinet for the guns now. . . . and I'm OK with that. :D

Where's the tactical death llama I saw on the cover art? I feel really let down.

Love the fake credits in the outtakes :D

Notice how when Fillon gets up from his captain's chair, it turns out that the chair is just an ordinary office chair he's strapped to!

Adios, 'Firefly'...

When Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon looks back on 2005, he can take comfort in knowing that his film-directing debut, the sci-fi Western Serenity, resurrected his canceled-too-soon cult classic TV series Firefly, and was also one of the year's best-reviewed movies. ''I should say I'm above reading reviews,'' he says. ''But I would be lying.'' Alas, Whedon's fond memories are also tainted by Serenity's status as a franchise nonstarter; despite Universal's best marketing efforts, the film only mustered $25 million. ''In the end, it was what it was: a tough sell,'' says Whedon, adding that it appears the Firefly saga has reached its conclusion. He has no regrets — and he's moving on. He's currently penning a Wonder Woman flick for Warner Bros., and has the thriller Goners set up at Universal; he'll direct whichever...

grr

grrr

grrr

"best efforts of Universal to market it"

what best efforts? no one even knew about it! no one heard about it! it never made the news! it never.... i remember the trailer being pretty much nothing but the words "serenity".

and that was about it.

That interview has been discussed on a Firefly board, and Whedon did remark on it. Firefly is NOT dead yet. It still depends on how the dvd sales do. Josh has just stated he has closure IF it does not continue.

despite Universal's best marketing efforts

I had to choke down a laugh when I read this :D I remember seeing a grand total of three commercials for "Serenity," none of which made much sense.

But it was a very tough season for the US box office. A lot of flicks with a MUCH larger budget than "Serenity," from "Doom" to "Kingdom of Heaven" to "Lord of War" bombed horribly in the domestic BO. The foreign BO is the only thing saving a large number of other features. "Serenity" will make some money in the end with foreign sales and the increasingly lucrative DVD market. Plus it has a rabid and shockingly well-armed fan base. I wouldn't write it off. Almost every studio has taken it in the shorts this season, so I would be surprised if some grand conclusion is drawn about how "Serenity" can't be sold. There are deep and systemic problems with the motion picture industry right now. I wouldn't be unhappy to see the whole "Firefly" operation moved over to a cable or syndicated series.

Not real evidence, but the DVD sales seem to be doing well. I had Serenity on my Christmas wish list, and my wife said she got the next to the last widescreen version at the local Wall-to-Walmart.

Keep your fingers crossed.
