View attachment 1130210[ My Rem 700 BDL Stainless .270 Win, fluted, fully-floated barrel...glass-bedded action in the after-market stock. This rifle has harvested several Maine deer and a nice moose at about 270 yards, as it walked across a narrow woods road to meet some girlfriends.

Trigger is very smooth and it shoots half-minute groups at 100 yards.

I also reload all my "larger game" hunting ammo, using premium bullets that always have performed well on the game I'm hunting. I tend to use the same loads that worked well and my best cases, so there shouldn't be any surprises.

My .270 Win, Rem 700 BDL Stainless, glassbedded in its nice aftermarket 3-layer, laminated stock. She's very accurate and not too heavy. Moose was harvested in the North Maine Woods at about 280 yards as it crossed a narrow section of a North Maine Woods haul road. My son had scouted the area and it proved to be great. The poor victim was called in by a few females in a feeding area. One shot from my .270 Win handloads through the lungs was all it took. I used handloads consisting of a Nosler 140 Accubond, pushed along nicely by a healthy dose of RX22, as listed in my Lyman reloading manual. I was sitting on my folding stool and had my left elbow on my knee. He took about three steps and disappeared into an empty wood piling area on the right side of the road. We heard him thrashing about for only a few seconds before it got quiet.

Moose 2017.jpg

Rem 700 BDL Stainless .270 Win, epoxy-bedded in an after-market finished stock. Leupold 3-9X scope. My first moose; shot in the North Maine Woods at 280 yards. One shot kill, using my best hunting handloads. My son had scouted the area and it was a great place. About 4 females were walking around in the road and moved off a few yards before the bull showed up. He'd been wading in a pond and was pretty wet when we got to him. I was sitting on my folding stool (No rest) and he was walking across the road toward his "girls" when I shot.

There were two other Bulls that were howling, so the females who were "wishing" probably found their "thrills".

This reedbuck was a "bonus" trophy when I was hunting leopard in Zambia several years back. The rifle is a .338 Win Mag built aroung a '09 Argentine Mauser by David Miller with stockwork by his pardner Curt Crum. The Miller scope mount system cradles the scope for much of it's length and is fitted into the receiver. It has never changed zero after the abuse of many hunts and places and even the dedicated efforts of airline baggage handlers. IMG00023 (2)-3.jpg IMG-3975-2.jpg IMG-3976-2.jpg IMG-3977-2.jpg

My first and only moose. Shot several years ago in the North Maine Woods! My son and grandson were with me at the time. Some lovely females called him in and I shot as he crossed the woods road. One shot, when sitting on my folding stool. Rifle is a Rem 700 Stainless with custom stock. Shoots as good as it looks!!! It's also taken several deer, including one from a tree stand...left handed, at a running deer.

I took this waterbuck in Zimbob 4 years ago with 2nd most favorite hunting rifle: a 7X57 built around a '09 Argentine Mauser action by Al Biesen. Al did both metal and stock and I wish I'd had him make me more rifles before he retired and passed away, noone ever did it better. The odd looking scope is a Leupold VX-L 4.5-14X. It's a great scope but the 50mm front lens is too bulky for a hunting rifle so I switched to the more compact scope in pics. I took this bongo antelope quite a few years ago in what is now known as the Southern Sudan. Bongo have a well deserved reputation as one of the thoughest to hunt of all Arfican, with hunter success ratios in single digits. Which makes it one of, if not the most, desirable African trophys. I'm told that a few places will still sell you hunting licenses for bongo but I also hear their prices are astronomical. The rifle is a .280 Rem. built around a Pre-64 Win M-70 action with metal and woodwork by Clayton Nelson. Compare the young chap in pic with the gray-haired guy in post #415 in this thread, are they one and the same? Or do you simply see the aftereffects of too many years, too many miles and too many hard hunts? The rifle has survived somewhat better despite some hard hunts in bad places. It is an honor, Sir, to read your posts and see your rifles. You look good.

This rifle has nicks, dings, and scars, its barrel has been replaced once, as has its bolt. It still gets it done day in and day out......

There are plenty if other rifles that get out and hunt.....they will get pictures eventually too.
