Excellent map/geog skills, DanMar.

I've been closer to Skowhegan, but now moving to the coast this weekend in
a long anticipated professional move. Going to be much better over there for me (hopefully).

I sacrifice some sharpness but I'm still able to find
a Grouse in thick cover and put him on the menu.

That made me laugh.

I've been seriously considering a Skinner for my rifle. BUT, . . . . I don't care for the uncertainty of whether or not it will work with my front site post [which I don't want to change out]. Skinner needs to figure out how to make their sight lower to accomodate all possibilities. I wonder if a Skinner could be customized to set the site lower in the mount?

Front sights are cheap and easy to change. I'm pretty sure if Skinner could have made it lower they would have.

It seems like enough folks get by with the original front sight that I intend that to be my first choice. I would like to keep my simple beaded post if I can. I will let you all know how the Skinner works with it.

Hello" to all of the other 39 fans...

I was just admiring the wide variety of 39s that have been posted in The Marlin 39 Club and thought I'd join in and share a few pictures of my own, a 1939, 39-A.

I remember as a kid the first time I ever went into a real gun shop. I asked the gunsmith that owned the place which rifle he thought was the best, most accurate 22. He said it was the Marlin model 39. Being the 13 year old connoisseur of 22s that I was, I remember being surprised that he picked a lever gun, expecting instead some exotic bolt action, but figured that there must be something to it if he held them in such high regard. Right then and there I decided that one day I would own one and see for myself what was so special about them and eventually I did...

While the Marlin 39 may not actually be the "most accurate" 22 that there is, it certainly is one of the more accurate sporters out there. One could also make a pretty good argument for it being the "best" all-around 22, being extremely well made, fast, accurate, long-lasting and the oldest model 22 in continuous production with lots of history behind it. Regardless of what a 39 is or isn't, after all of this time and lots of different 22s, the 39 certainly remains one of my favorites..

Scope Mount

No new posts here in the last few days, so I thought I would post a picture of my 39a with its new scope mount. Man I have to thank Fast Frank for all you did to make this mount happen. This thing is AWSOME! rock solid platform.

I hope we can get some ammo back on the shelves pretty soon, I would love to shoot mine a little bit this summer!

Yes its a super acurate rifle, its amazing what the model 39 can do with a good scope setup out at 100 yards and beyond. I got lucky on ammo, I was walking through walmart a few weeks ago past the sporting goods section and several guys were circled around the store clerk who had a case of ammo! So I jumped to the end of the line, he had 4 boxes of Remington .22 bulk in the 222 round box left. I tried to buy all four but he said store policy was 3 boxes per customer, wich actually is a good thing because without that policy I probably wouldnt of got any. But it still leaves me with one problem, my 39 century made in 1970, and the 39M made in 1976 digest evey brand of bulk ammo that Ive ever feed them without a hickup, but the 39a with the scope that was made in 2004 only likes to eject Winchester Wildcats. So it has been fun shooting the two with peep sights on them, just havent got to shoot the scoped 39a in the last several months due to no Wildcats.

I'd measure the rim thickness of the Wilcats you've got left & record that. I'd also go lookin' for any other Winchester bulk .22, say a 333 box & make the same determination.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if they're any different, hard to imagine that Winchester would have a separate brass production line just for Wildcat .22.. However the crimp may be different, and I'd also measure the case diameter just under the heel of the bullet.

Hi CB, Yes your right all the Winchesters that I have ever ran through it ejcted fine, although as far as low cost winchester ammo goes I seem to get the best accuracy with that rifle from wildcats and still have them eject out consistently. But last fall I did run a whole box of 333 Winchester with no FTE. So If I do ever have a choice on ammo brands agin I'll go with the Winchesters because they work in all 3 of the 39's. Sure hope the ammo companies start getting more .22 ammo out.
