The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

...... am currently looking to find those exact same type of rubber grips. They have been out of stock for a while.

Those look like Pachmayr presentation grips model 03137.
It looks like you can buy them right off the Pachmayr web site.
I personally never liked them much, but I've seen them sell for well under $20 on E-Bay.
For rubber grips I prefer the Hogue.

Very nice pair indeed !! Congrats, welcome, welcome !! .................Oh in regards to those Pachmayr rubber grips I mentioned above, well no one, yup no one has them. Not even the factory or its distributors. Nope, none.I wonder why ? If anyone has them, or know where to find the exact same model, kindly pm me. And no, I do not like the Hoags. I know it is heresy to put rubber grips on a ROA. I am about to sin.Forgive me for that. But I have an ROA 'project' going and calls for that kind of a grip !

So my 1978 era old army had a rough looking grip frame; originally i stripped it to bare aluminum but I didnt like the contrast... so i got it cerakoted burnt bronze.

I've seen several folks strip down their Aluminum grip frames and when polished up, look much better than the chipped up, partially missing powder coat did. The polished frames look a lot like a silver plated frames, although upon inspection no one should be fooled. That burnt bronze cerakote looks awesome, but I'm curious how well it will hold up on the aluminum grip frame. I've never used cerakote myself, but I've heard conflicting results on its durability on aluminum. If it held up at least as well as the original powder coat, I'd definitely do it.

Actually gentlemen, Ruger does not "Powder Coat" any of their aluminum grip frames/reciever on ANY revolver OR semi auto. It is Anodized Aluminum. A very hard "to the bone" chemical process. And not a coating. A chemical reaction takes place to produce it. All this so called 'coatings' new nowadays are just that, coatings.Plating or anodizing are so much more durable. The finish is bonded to the metal. In fact, fused into it. ..Of course, everything wears off in time, or if subject to hard use or the elements.

Whatever finish Ruger used on the aluminum grip frame it was not a conventional anodizing. Conventional anodizing will not chip or flake, and the finish on those aluminum grip frames was and still is notorious for chipping off with moderate use.

Coming to the party really late, ironic in that I shot the prototype at Friendship, returned home and asked my dad, Jack, of Jack-Sons Gun and Ammunition Reloading Service, to order five for our b.p. group. IIRC, it took the best part of two years to get them. I screwed up my first one by having Harold Shockley of Hanna City nickel plate it. After driving home from a shoot in Burlington, IA, I found that it had already started to pit. When I graduated from my apprentice course, dad asked me for it. Why, well he had a stainless one for me and a friend wanted the nickel one for a display in his Ruger collection.
I shot that thing a lot in competition, taking some NMLRA regional badges, but when we started building our house, the kids got into sports and my job duties ramped up, it got put in the safe.
Last year I saw a Howell's cylinder on sale and bought it. Been taking the Ruger along to the range regularly. What fun. And to think I actually considered selling it.

Hey guys got a question for yall.
I want to shoot some big projectiles say in the 250 gr area, but I'v herd that slugs that large takes us so much space in a cylinder they are difficult to seat so the cylinder rotates unimpeded and I'd like to seat a wonder wad on top of the powder. What is yall's oponion on deepening the cylinders to do this. I would be much happy if I could use 40 grns. of powder on top of all this. Intention, to make a hog quite docile and for taking does. But I think round balls will be good enough for does.

Another question
If ROA are built on a black hawk frame why do we have to settle for conversion cylinders only capeable of mediocre velocities. Why can't we have aftermarket cylinders, even if they are 5 shots, that are capeable of handling close to what are upper limits of a .45 LC, even if it's not a ruger only max at least we would be able to squeeze a little more out of it taking advantage of what the frame of the gun can handle. Did I make myself clear or was I too convaluted in my description?

Great looking pair Madcrate builder.I like the way you cleaned the stainless up.

I'm working on the ROA but those guys at Gun Broker keep jacking the price up. I reckon I'm just going to have to take off the kid gloves and start playing hard ball with them. I've made several phone calls to dealers around the country and those ROAs, in good shape, especially in stainless are hard to find.

Hey guy, I've seen where some jobbers were selling two, a set of ROA. I'm as hot for a ROA as a two dollar call girl. Maybe we could tag team'em and split the deal if both are accepted to each of us.

Has anyone priced octagon barrels and installation of same?
I really thank everyone for putting up with me being a new guy. Some of yall have bent over backwards answering questions setting me on the streight and narrow.
A little something I've come to live by,

Learn by the mistakes of others, there's not enough time to make them all yourself.
