$1000.00 ++++ is an amount a non-shooter,non-gun loving,just buy and wait for the price to go up kind of individual would pay for so he can flip it at a profit kind af guy. Thats the kind of person that hoards and dumps his guns when the price is right.The way prices have skyrocketed on some NIB examples just shows the greed that can sometimes come out of otherwise so called 'nice guys'.I have left a couple of shooting friends when they started doing that sort of thing.It is all about the love of guns and shooting and nothing more,not making a killing flipping and dealing.
I'm sorry....I have a SS 5-1/2" ROA and I have everything in the world to it....and I shoot it all the time. I must have 500 rounds through it since it's last iteration. That's a lot when you consider how long it takes to load using a loader (I use a Dick Dastardly loader). I guess it doesn't matter what it's worth with all that I've done. Sorry for such a long post....I didn't realize how long this list would be.
I have to remind myself what I've done to it.
1. Lee's action job
a) opened up forcing cone
b) Trued up barrel face
c) Lee's spring
d) Removed goofy warning label on the barrel
2. Clements
a) Bisley SS hammer
b) Deepened cylinders
c) Angled and serrated front site. I put some high visibility
gold paint on that stays really well in the serrations.When I
use my amber shooting glasses, this little trick that
Clements told me about works great!
3. Power Custom
a) Colt SS billet grip frame (installed by Clements)
b) hammer and trigger shims. Took all the slop and wiggle out
hammer and trigger. Trigger breaks like glass now.
4. Paul Persinger black grips with a blind SS screw. This
fits the gun flawlessly and look even better. He cut
them to fit my big mitts better.
5. Classicballistx cylinder.
a) The ones I have fit spot on and have no warning labels.
6. I've tried all kinds of nipples and the ones I found work really well are:
a) Slixshot from Cowboybullets.com. That extra horizontal hole seems to ignite the triple 7 loads a bit better.
b) Treso's work great too.
c) Blomquist work just as well as the Treso's and you can use a nut driver on them.
7. I also have a Kirst Konverter. Works great when I want to shoot 45LC that I can spit out of my Dillon at alarming rates
8. Belt mountain cylinder pin to use with my Kirst. Perfect fit. I wish they would make a quick release cylinder pin.
I use Triple 7 mostly but have all the B/P substitutes as well as true black. T7 shoots the cleanest.
I also prefer RWS 1075+ caps. Remington #11's are a good second for fit but have a far weaker spark.
I use BigLube molds, both 150gr and 210gr. I had the first three cavities of each mold modified by Hollow Point Mold Service. They have very large hollow points in the BigLube 210gr HP. Eric does fantastic work. The 210 HP is my most accurate with about 40gr of triple 7. I can get 45 gr under it and still get acceptable accuracy. Recoil is nice and stiff. I only shoot this pistol with one hand, just like they did when they were in use. A two handed stance seems unnatural now. I use my RCBS lubrisizer to lube and size to .454. I use no external lubes or wads.
I have several handles. Lee's are just too fragile. I use MiHec handles. They work great. I also use KAL which are really nice. I also tried a set of locking handles from Carbine Tree. They work great on smaller molds but won't fit the big cavity molds. I will fix that shortly by welding a small section in. When I get that done I suspect they will help casting bullets with a bit more consistently.
In its current rendition and loads, I never get any leading in the barrel, it's far more accurate than I am. It's very reliable if I follow my loading protocols. It doesn't foul up enough for me to stop and have to clean it. I have shot a string of 50 round and while a bit filthy, it never offered to stop, jam or crud up.
AND I STILL CLEAN IT IN THE DISHWASHER!

Mr. Roberts , I looked over the Belt Mountain base pin/ 5.5" Old Army again since the earlier post.
Yes, the Belt Mountain pin will withdraw far enough to allow the cylinder to be pulled.
It will still need to take the rammer catch back off the gun to remove the pin and reinstall the original base pin/rammer/lever assembly.
I guess if you don't plan on storing the on-board loading accoutrement on the gun for when you care to use your black powder cylinder, it wouldn't be a problem.
Just make CERTAIN that you don't lose/misplace -or- otherwise those parts for the gun because I'd venture to say that you'll NEVER find any replacements for them.

Finally got the the range today with my blued 5-1/2" fixed-sight ROA. I ran 25 rounds of .45LC BP cartridges through a Kirst Konverter, followed by 30 rounds of .457 balls over 30 grains of FFFg Goex and a lubed wad. Shot 8" steel targets at 12 and 24 yards, no problem keeping all shots on target. Seems to me, the cap'n ball loads were a bit more accurate than the .45LC cartridges. The cartridges were a lot dirtier, too ... and with having to pull the conversion cylinder each time, I decided I like shooting the stock cap'n ball cylinder better. Next think I'll try loading up some cartridges with Trail Boss and see how they compare.
Regardless, thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the range.

Hard-nylon grip screw spacer every member here should have in their RUGER OLD ARMY's
I have looked far and wide to find this little 55 cent piece and Lo and Behold!,only Home Depot has them and it is an exact size, a drop-it-in and forget it's even there kind of thing. What is it and what is it for? Well it is a small hard-nylon mini tube-like spacer,or stand off spacer that you simply drop into your grip screw that prevents over tightening and cracking those precious grips you have on your ROA's. The SKU NO: is 030699871681 and comes in a pack of two pieces for a measley 55 cents/pk. The description and size on the plastic bag/pack says: Spacer 1/2 long, 1/4 OD x .140"ID x 12.7 .Made by Crown-Bolt and found in the screws/fasteners section on the steel pull-out drawers, at every Home Depot. Once you come home with this little device, you might wonder why it is not installed in every ROA/Blackhawk by the factory to prevent cracking and over tightening and eventually destroying those expensive Walnut,Exotic wood,Ivory,etc. that you paid so much for. No amount of force will crack your grips (within limits of brute force, that is) Simply slip it in and you will know what I mean.It will in no way interfere with the mainspring or safe operation of your revolver.Try to cock your gun while it, the nylon spacer, is dropped into your grip-screw with just one grip in place, upon commencing to cock,the mainspring simply pulls-away and lifts itself away from the nylon spacer! Bingo! Simple perfection! Works like a charm! Just buy what you need, there is no telling if there are other members in your area running to the same store to get these little gems. Sorry but I know of no other place that has them in this PERFECT size. And I can tell you that I have done my research looking for this. So there you have it folks,go get them before they are gone or some enterprising fella decides to hoard them all,repackages them with a fancy name like "Grip-Savers" and sells them for $10 a piece to the unsuspecting fool! Hope this little something helps all the members here save and insure that their grips last a lifetime of good use................................ P.S. I went past the HomeDepot today and picked up a couple of packages of your carefully researched retro-fit part.
The spacers fit my Old Army s perfectly.
Then I tried the grip panels of my large frame Vaquero Bisley s.
Again, perfect fit.
Thanks for your efforts to research and source the spacers for this critical "missing part".
Last week I called Ruger customer service because I was looking into getting some Ruger grip panels from the Single Ten to fit my Old Army s, and learned then that Ruger decided to produce this same part for that application (I think thier's was made from aluminum though) .
I hope you won't mind my passing on the info to other Ruger single action revolver owners ( those boys over at the SASS forum will surely appreciate this).

To:unknwn... I am glad that you found the grip spacers and installed them in your ROA's. Am also glad that Ruger themselves has seen the light and now offers them standard in their new revolvers.You had mentioned that they have them now in aluminum. Wow,how nice! You will however find that those hard nylon spacers that I mentioned are just as good or maybe a bit better 'cause they have a certain amount of "give" that a metal spacer won't have and not mark a ring on the inside of your grips like those metal ones would. Here is hoping that all members here in the club get them before the SASS cowboy shooters buy them all out to distribute to their fellow shooters on their next meet! Can't beat 55 cents for two! So far as Ruger is concerned, the only application that the spacer has been utilized in is the Single Ten. The grip panels for that revolver are so thin that there is a concern that there would be breakage without the spacer.
There was also a problem with supply for the item when I called, and the representative couldn't even tell me how much the part would cost.
So much for the good news from that front.
I'll be holding off on breaking the news to the Cowboys. The cap & ball crowd should have a head start on sourceing the anti-breakage Sumikito spacer before a run on the supply occurs.
Thanks again for the direction toward a worthwhile trip to the 'Depot.

By the way folks, the grip spacers/savers fit ALL Ruger Old Army's and All Blackhawks,All Super Blackhawks,All first model Vaqueros,All Bisleys, in fact most all Ruger Revolvers that have a removable grip frame and is a perfect 1/2 inch thick. Call it 'universal' if you want, but it works! Now that makes it so desirable that it won't take long for them to get wiped out. We have not even included the grip makers out there reading this post. Whew! Talk about a run on some silly little nylon/plastic thing-ah-majigs!! .............. One very IMPORTANT NOTE to add here if I may is that this spacer I am talking about WILL ONLY FIT original Ruger grip frames ONLY, and NOT aftermarket "custom" grip frames like Colt clones, Bird's Head types, or any grip frame and grip panels that are NOT made by Ruger or have not followed the exact dimensions of an original Ruger grip or grip panel. If you have a 100% Ruger revolver, it is a PERFECT drop in.

My local Home Depot here acted like they had autism when I asked about the plastic widget and gave them the info.
So I went to Ace hardware and got the same thing. Unfortunately, as I suspected, mine doesn't fit exactly. The plastic sleeve is a bit too long. Which is no problem as I'll file to fit. The reason it isn't a drop in is because my ROA has a Ron Power inc SS Billet Colt gripframe with custom Paul Persinger custom grips.
Again, no big deal. This thing is just a hair long and will file fine. I've really wanted....way before this thread started...something that would protect the blind screw in the right grip. So thanks...

Ruger old army comeback ?????
Now that is really hard to believe. My standard of rule of whether something discontinued is ever coming back is the manufacturer still keeps spare parts, even a few, for the discontinued item. In this case however, Ruger has gotten rid of ALL ROA parts from its bins. When I see a very LARGE parts seller/wholesaler like Numrich Arms stocked up/or over stocked up on ROA parts right after Ruger stopped making the ROA, THAT my friends is a very clear indication of a BYE BYE my friends, sorry but THATS IT.Another indication is the very last run of the factory, and this is fact my friends, consisted of gathering ALL parts to make the very LAST run of ROA's. Every single part to service all the existing ROA's out there to make the VERY LAST of the Ruger Old Armys.That included everything, including the grips!The ROA parts at Numrich quickly got depleted fast as gunsmiths were directed to GO THERE for precious ROA parts. Anyone hearing or believing there will be a comeback of any kind for the ROA will grow a white beard 4 feet long while fiddling with his ROA under a large tree. Hold on to what you have. Come 12/21/12 I will be ready. Will be wearing my backpack with all my ROA's ready for THE TRIP. I am sure that this club HAS to have a branch UP THERE. Meet you at the gates!!

Every single part to service all the existing ROA's out there to make the VERY LAST of the Ruger Old Armys.That included everything, including the grips!The ROA parts at Numrich quickly got depleted fast as gunsmiths were directed to GO THERE for precious ROA parts. Anyone hearing or believing there will be a comeback of any kind for the ROA will grow a white beard 4 feet long while fiddling with his ROA under a large tree. Hold on to what you have. Come 12/21/12 I will be ready. Will be wearing my backpack with all my ROA's ready for THE TRIP. I am sure that this club HAS to have a branch UP THERE. Meet you at the gates!!

Thats great AbitNutz that the ACE supply chain has them too. Helps a lot of guys here that have no Home Depot in their vicinity. In my part of town, all the little guys like the mom & pop ACE hardware chains have been run out of town by the big boys. Best regards, AbitNutz, sincerly....Joe

Well, yes and no, Sumikito. You're missing the fact that a good many of the ROA parts, including the grips AND grip frames and action parts, sights etc. are actually also Blackhawk parts; in fact, they're used throughout the Ruger single action revolver line. So, they weren't gathered up and not replaced at all; they still exist and can be purchased simply by referencing the Blackhawk part number. The key ROA-only part is the cylinder
I do happen to agree that there is no current effort under way at Ruger to reintroduce the ROA, but not because of the spare parts status. It's a simple matter of economics - they can make more money using those parts to make Vaqueros and Blackhawks.
