I have never owned a sig, been wanting one.I have heard the people who get them are really pleased with the performance.I have a chance to get one from a dealer for 575.00...It is in super like new condition! It is a 357 sig cal.Has 2 12 round mags and is black sa/da with the night sights also. Would like any input from sig owners.I have understood a 40 cal.barrel could be bought for this same gun for about 200.00...All sig owners would like your thoughts!!
Thanks for the time and your help!!

That is a pretty good price, especially with tritium sights.

As for the barrel change, you're "stuck" with 9mm if the pistol is chambered for 9mm. If you have a .40 or 357 SIG, you switch between the two (as well as get a 9mm conversion barrel).

That is a very good price.
From what I understand, the DAK trigger is basically a DAO with a lighter trigger pull (6-8lbs) and the trigger has two reset points.
I am not that familiar with DAK, I prefer standard DA/SA on my Sigs. Just keep the rails lubed with a good gun grease and it should serve you well.
Go to Grays Guns website, they have an article on inspecting Sigs.
If you can, remove the slide and look at the frame rails. Look for shiney exposed metal. The shiney metal shows where the annodizing has wore through to the metal, which is not a good thing.

DA/SA or DAK? There's a big difference and if you're not familiar with the DAK trigger you might want to look into it if that's what this 229 comes with. I loved my 229 DAK (right up until I sold it) but the DAK trigger is certainly not for everyone.

I special ordered my Sig P229R in 9mm, as I am not a fan of the 40/357.

It is, by far, my favorite pistol to shoot. It has been 100% since round#1, and it is very, very accurate.

If you like the .357 cartridge, by all means, buy that gun.

I have the P229 in DA/SA with aftermarket sights. Wonderful pistol. Absolutely flawless in action. I replaced the factory fixed sights with a set of night sights having a "Ghost Ring" rear sight that has tritium dots on each side and a dot in the front sight. Excellent sights in my opinion. Sights are sort of individualistic, what works for me might not work for you.
I also replaced the grips with a pair of Hogue rubber grips which fill my hand better. Again a personal choice.
I purchased mine in .40S&W chambering. I also bought an aftermarket .357SIG barrel. It works great using the .40 magazines. Over "up close and personal" distances, there is no major change in point of impact.
Over all, a great gun that will serve you well in my opinion. Buy it, if it is in good condition.

I have owned a 229R in .40 for about 3 years and it is one of the most accurate pistols I have. Been thinking of a .357 barrel for mine but just haven't had the money. You definately can not go wrong at that price.

I own 5 SIGs, you will definitely love the P229. I just have the .40S&W barrel for mine, but shoot both the .40 and .357SIG out of my P226, just drop in the different barrel. DA the trigger is a stout pull but in SA it is sweet. P229 great range pistol, good conceal carry weapon, near perfect pistol in many ways, has few detractors. Get it ASAP and get the extra barrel.

2 sigs so far more probably will be on the way. Never had any issues with them. In my experience that is a good price for the night sights.

I'd say it's a fair price, especially if the pistol overall is in good condition. The P229 is a very versatile pistol that is compact enough to carry if you so desire, yet beefy enough to absorb the recoil of the .40 quite nicely.

Even though I don't carry it much anymore, it's still one of my favorites and I'll probably never get rid of it. I had the slide hard chromed by Tripp Research before they stopped refinishing, and had night sights put on it while it was there. Great running pistol.
