The thread about trickling to the Nth degree, made me curious. So I weighed and weighed and then counted kernals and weighed some more.
The powder I'm loading now is H4895.
6 kernals of H4895 is very close to .1 grain.
So if I accept that dropping powder at +- .1 grain with this powder I could be missing my target weight by 6 kernals either way. Sure don't seem like much does it?
In my rifle this past weekend, I wondered why I was getting an occasional flyer for no apparent reason. When I got back home I started pullin bullets and checking charges. Some of the finding cleared flyers up pretty well. Some were .3 g (18 kernals) from the target charge, both high and low. I had weighed each charge but did not get anal about where the pointer was pointing. And what about that one or two that a few kernals missed getting in the case. Getting in a rush caused this trying to beat the rain.
If a half grain increase will give, say 50 fps increase in velocity, I had a 30fps variation in both directions. That is an operator induced discrepancy, not even looking at case volume yet.
Any thoughts or comments?
