The worst ammunition you've ever shot?

Ammo is expensive, more so today than ever before. We all try to get the best deal we can, many have gone the route of reloading and found success, but some have yet to get into the reloading scene and are stuck buying all our ammo and then there's rimfire.

So, what is the worst brand ammo you've ever shot and what cartridge was it?

Winchester universals and Winchester bulk back .22. Garbage. Wouldn't take it if it was free.

Personally fired it would be bulk .22 lead round nose. Very dirty.

Observed would have to be Tula .380 auto. As a range officer I saw more guns locked up tight with live rounds partially in the chamber while firing Tula .380 auto than any other gun/ammo combination. I don't own a .380 but if I did I wouldn't shoot Tula in it.

Thunderbolt .22. Dirty, inconsistent report, duds and did I mention dirty...
Absolute junk.
Had a case rupture with some federal bulk, set the hammer on my Henry back to the safe cock, hot gas all over my glasses and cheek. Rim separated from the case.

Tula assmax errr Brassmax. Easy mistake. Horrible mainstream stuff failures to return to battery in HKs, Glocks, Walthers etc. I am convinced it would jam if I dropped it down a length of 4 inch PVC.

Remington UMC in .45acp. Inconsistent speeds, poor accuracy. I was chrono'ing loads that day and did several brands of ammo and my reloads. UMC was horrible.

Some of your .22s must be a lot more picky than my Ruger MkII.

Remington Thunderbolt/Golden Bullet, Federal, Winchester, Blazer...name it, I'll shoot it. May get the occasional dud (we're talking one in one hundred or so)...and if I eject it, load it back into a mag while turning it 90 degrees so the firing pin strikes a fresh spot...nearly 100% of them fire too.

Same experience with my Glenfield M60 and my AR with the CMMG .22LR adaptor kit. I just have not found any .22LR ammo that I can honestly call "junk".

PMC Zapper .22 long rifle. This was close to 20 years ago at a summer camp. We had at least 2 duds per 40 rounds. (8 stations times 5 rounds per). We used it up making noise after class, we got a few cases of Winchester ammo afterwards. We had almost no issues with the Winchester.

Store bought would be the bucket O bullets of Remington golden bullets. Not bad actually but I can't get through a mag without an FTFeed in one of my 22/45s. Same mags in another... No problem. Even though the charge is inconsistent accuracy is still good.

Home grown.... Sappyg specials. I load a lot of 38s. Sometimes I get a backward primer or a light charge. I usually catch them but sometimes one will get by me.

I had the same experience with my single shot growing up. Had a case rupture in my face and thought it blew my gun up. Turns out it was just unburnt powder hitting my face and my ear drums ringing. The "new and improved" stuff seems to have just enough powder to get the bullet out the front of the barrel. I had to check for squibs twice. Never again for me. YMMV.

Winchester .22lr Wildcat. Click, dud, wait, cycle, click, dud, wait, cycle, click, bang, click, dud, wait..... Same day, same gun, Remington Thunderbolt and Remington Golden Bullets.... bang, bang, bang, bang.

Or Silver Bear 7.62x39. I had a WASR-10 AK that would cycle everything just fine, except Silver Bear. It fired just fine when you get it into the chamber, just couldn't get it there reliably.

It's designed for use in suppressed guns if I'm not mistaken.

CCI loads three different subsonic .22 LR ammo: CCI Quiet is a 40 gr LRN at around 710 fps, CCI Subsonic is a 40 gr LHP at 1050 fps, and CCI Suppressor at 970 fps w/ a 45 grain LHP.

Remington Golden Bullet 22 LR, more than any other. Very dirty, lots of low powder loads, lots of jams, FTF, in my 10/22 & Mark II. I quit buying them a long time ago. :banghead:
