do y'all ever think you have toooooo many of one model, or caliber, especially if you just don't have time nor inclination to shoot them all ?
if you have, did you solve the thought by selling off some, and did you regret their leaving ?
I find I just have trouble justifying having the money tied up and not being used.....
gimme your thoughts here
thanks

Yup, doing it right now. I got some real good deals and ended up with more than I needed in a couple of areas. Never had any remorse from a sale or trade either. If I found I really miss a gun I let go - I just get another one...

I have approximately 15 firearms that I never shoot. Probably should sell some. All of them have increased in value over the years.

I've sold and traded a BUNCH - now I pretty much have exactly what I want. Out of the dozens of guns I've traded and/or sold, however, there is only ONE that I miss.

It was an Italian made Beretta 92FS INOX with the straight dust cover and stainless controls. I will find that gun again someday and buy it. Then all in the world will once again be in harmony.

I'm in the process of reducing the numbers now...

My wife and I just built what will be our retirement home. In the process of moving I realized that my hobby may have gotten a little out of hand over the years. I hope I don't have seller's remorse.

I'll occasionally sell a gun because I'm about to get a replacement, but that's usually the only time I sell it.

I've sold some in the past that I regret and some I don't.

I want my collection to eventually be my son's and possibly his son's.

Blasphemy. You can never be too rich, nor too thin, nor own too many firearms ... of whatever stripe.

The basic rule of thumb: Never, ever, sell a gun. You'll live to regret it, sooner rather than later. And your regret will last for as long as you do.

Unless you hate the gun, or you're replacing it with something better in every way(including pride of ownership).

I have regretted selling every gun I ever sold, most of them are now worth 3 times what I paid for them, and I am in my 20's. I wish I had my Enfield no.1 MK III made in 1917 back. Or my MAK 90 AK. etc. etc. The only one I don't regret is trading my S&W Sigma for a beautiful blue S&W 910.

Yeah I went through the great consolidation several years ago and sold off my 40's and 10mm's. Made enough money to get into my first 1911 and my first AR so, it's all good. Funny how I 'thinned' the herd, but I have more guns now than ever before.

-ha- 10-ring, that's what I'm afraid of - ha ; but on fixed income, sometimes ya' just gotta/ I guess.....

to many guns are being abused nowadays. if you have them, keep them warm and safe, away from all the evils in the world.

I've sold off a bunch of guns from my personal collection. I don't regret selling any of them. I have less guns than I used to, but I like the guns I have now more.

Examples:

I always wanted a longslide 10mm 1911, but didn't want to spend the money on one. I found a couple of nice .357s in the safe that I never shot, sold them to pay for the 10mm and some ammo, and now I have a gun I actually shoot.

At one point I owned 7 ARs. Now I have 2, and the extra money went into getting a suppressor and paying the SBR tax so I could go with a short barrel. Having one gun exactly as I like it now makes me happier than having a safe full of guns.

I used to have 8 or 9 870s. Now I have 2, and I bought a few over/unders I'd always wanted.

My mentality of what guns I want to own changes over the years. In the past I was interested in the bargain best bang for the buck guns, but now I prefer high quality or more unique ones and slowly staring to notice the desire to move towards collector pieces. I sold Taurus PT145 and Styer M40 to replace them with a couple of Sig pistols. The only other gun I sold was an unreliable Interarms Walther PPK. I too think about the future of my collection and passing it down in generations. I don’t like selling guns, but can justify it if it purifies my collection. I am now very picky at what I purchase, so I suspect that any gun I buy now will not be sold in the future unless I absolutely have to.

I have two XD9s ~ one a 5" and the other, a 3". Yeah, the 5" is extra, but I like having an extra.

I have 5, 22LR guns due to circumstances out of my control. I would be just fine with one rifle and one handgun, assuming they were good, which they are.

I also have 2, 12-gauge shotguns. I will only use one of them, but the other one is an heirloom, so I guess I'm stuck with it.

The cost of shooting very quickly outstrips the cost of a new gun, so I choose my calibers carefully. I like .22LR, 9mm, and 12-gauge. I'd be just fine with one .22 handgun, one .22 rifle, two 9mm handguns, and one 12-gauge shotgun. In fact, I'd be even "finer" if I didn't have to deal with the others.

In the mid-nineties I sold my .357 Magnum Colt Trooper Mk III with electroless nickel finish and rubber grips. I still kick myself over that one! I sold a Ruger Mk II Standard Model and I regret that too!

Too thin is possible it is called anorexic so I disagree on that.

I agree with the rest!

I always have the best intentions, of selling off a firearm if I want to get another, but so far I've only been able to buy.. Selling just doesnt seem to be in my blood, so I say, hang on to em' and just save if ya need something else.. ;)

Hey pigiron. I was looking at the receipt for my SA 1911 that I bought 4 years ago (I haven't shot it yet) and noticed I had paid $389 for it.
Wonder if it has increased in value. I also have a .38 S&W Chiefs Special AirWeight that I paid $99 for it in 1971. Wonder if it also has gone up in value. heh, heh, I bet it has. But I ain't gonna sell it. Maybe pass it on down to one of the kids.

I have sold off some guns in the past and have now come to regret all of those sales. I don't think you can have to many of a gun. I have 12 different 1911's and I still want more. I have 10 or 11 different 22LR guns and will always want more.

Show me a stamp collector, or a coin collector, or heck any other collector that is satisfied with only one of what ever they collect. I bet that person would be hard to find. They usually have all the variations of whatever they collect. Why should guns be any different? Why is it strange to want all the different barrel lengths and caliber variations of the same model gun.

Well, anyway, that is the arguement I keep using on my wife....:D

If I'd lived by the "never sell a gun" rule, I wouldn't have had a fraction of the guns I've owned. Even though I'm just in my thirties, I've owned, carried, and shot about 80 different guns. Of those, I've kept less than one in three. Yet, through all that buying, selling and trading, I've really learned what guns I prefer most, and I've built a small collection of arms that I really enjoy. Ultimately, "thinning the herd" has made me a more knowledgeable and discriminating gun owner.

Not yet

I have a couple of guns I've considered selling, but have never gone through with it. I have become pickier over the guns that I buy, so 5 of the last 6 have been CZ's.
