Think about this? (What Places are Inappropriate for Concealed Carry?)

The Gym/Swimming
If I am going out drinking (I don't drink though...)
A courtroom/courthouse
places where it is illegial (too many in NC IMO)
When I been asked by the property owner NOT to carry.

For those talking about the shower, a nudist camp or skinny dipping, how do you carry concealed? Where do you hold your permit?

I know of one way...but I am not going there... ;)

Church ? Carry there.
The Gym ? Pocket gun or no gun... if I went to a gym in the first place. Unless it was just running/walking on a treadmill.
Your grandma's House ? Pocket gun.
A funeral ? Pocket gun.
A Wedding ? Shotgun. :p
Snow Skiing ? Not likely. I think you're supposed to fall down and break bones repeatedly in that sport, and a chunk of metal on your person might just add to the pain and suffering.
During huggy events (grandma/funeral), where folk may not be especially pro-gun/pro-carry, I prefer to avoid any issues.
Hell, I've carried while swimming. Once. Ziplock bags are great, mighty, and wonderful.
I don't carry in places where it is illegal to do so.

ya gotta get there don't ya??

Can't anything happen when you are enroute to your location?? Any BG can do evil anywhere anytime if it is his intent, many past events (eg. Columbine, Church shootings, etc) have proven that. If BG's are up to no good & have serious intent & will to do it why would they stop based on where they were. The chuch shootings are proof positive that there are a few in the world that aren't afraid of eternal damnation.

I intend on saving my a$$ & the a$$es of my family members anywhere, anytime.

Can't help myself

Nudist Colony?

Concealed Carry would definitely be out, but I could make a few guesses as to what you would see.

Young men would carry the .220 Swift until they gained experience.
Jewish men would carry a rimless cartridge
Anyone carrying a .22 LR will actually use the word Long
Men will no longer brag about their "short action" magnums. In fact, the most popular men will be sporting the 45 Long Colt.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess the ladies cartridge will be the 45 GAP.

Young children will leave Lapua all over the ground.

I would divide up such areas into two groups - places where the environment makes it a bad idea, and places where your status makes it a bad idea.

1) Environment includes areas with high magnetic fields:
As was mentioned by chieftain in post 22, Magnetic Resonance Imagers (MRIs) are a bad idea. Here's the article about the incident: http://www.ajronline.org/cgi/content/full/178/5/1092 "Spontaneous Discharge of a Firearm in an MR Imaging Environment". Also, other areas with high magnetic fields (though these are generally only found in research labs) are NMR spectrometers and any sort of particle accelerator.

High temperature environments (fire-fighters) could cause a cook off (I know that it would be a temperature beyond what a person could survive, but ifyou passed on, a cook off could endanger your colleagues).

2) For your own status:
I would also say anyplace where you could not control the weapon (and this will vary by person). It will include any time anesthesia is used, and might include other situations where awareness and ability are impaired (for example, getting your eyes dilated at the ophthalmologist's). Participation in sports where grappling, tumbling, and falling would be another class. Activities like roller-coasters and bungee-jumping might be included if your firearms lacks a firing-pin safety, or other device to prevent an inertial discharge.

My thoughts (echoes almost everyone else's):

Church ? Sure. There have been plenty of church shootings lately. In fact, I know I'm not the only one to carry.

The Gym ? I would but I don't go to the gym as often as I should, and I think it's illegal in NC (places that charge admission, please correct me if I'm wrong).

Your grandma's House ? Carried there. Grandparents have never said anything about it.

A funeral ? I haven't been to one since I got my license (thankfully) but I don't see a reason not to.

A Wedding ? See above. I know of friends that have carried though.

Snow Skiing ? Once again I haven't been since having license, but I don't think I would carry while skiing. Risk of injury just seems too great. Now having it in the car on the way to and for after sure.

Guns should be allowed everywhere.
Rules do not stop stupid or irresponcible individuals, so why should inteligent or responcible individuals have to be at risk?

I can't think of any place where carry would be inappropriate for a person who is not drinking to get drunk (as opposed to having a drink with dinner and stopping while still legal to drive), under the influence of drugs, sleeping in public, or otherwise rendering him/herself incapable of rationality.

Absolutely nowhere. Just because you are in a church does not mean that bad things cannot happen. The recent chruch shootings prove that.

There are places I take my gun off when I go in. My in-laws house for instance. Dad put a lock on the cupboard over their fridge. When I walk in I go to the kitchen and lock my gun up. I pocket the key. He never really asked, just put the lock in and told me what it was for. Probably makes my mother-in-law more comfortable. I know she is comfortable that I carry when we are out. Dad has passed and my wife and I are staying with her mom while we sell our place. She was a little surprised at the extent of my collection, but all she asked was that I install a gun safe. Other than that I carry everywhere, even places I maybe shouldn't unless there are security checks or we just don't go there. I don't recognize the legality of limits on my right to protect my family.

"What Locations are unappropriate in your mind to carry concealed ?"

Surgery and skinny dipping.

This requires a membership, it is not charging admission. So yes, you can if allowed by the proprietor.

By the way, I thought everyone in WV carried at weddings.

Ok. I just wondered because if your not a member the gym (Planet Fitness) charges something like $20 to use the facilities.

As for WV weddings, I have had friends carry to them. I just haven't been to a wedding since getting my license. Besides they don't call it a shotgun wedding for nothing. That poor groom. :uhoh::neener:

P.S. Sorry for any thread-jacking.

I carry regardless of my surroundings. I don't drink to excess, and a beer or two does not impair me significantly, nor does it render my life less worthy than if I were

While I somewhat agree with you on this, a beer most likely wont cloud my judgment abilities. I cant get away from the legal ramifications. Crininal and civil both.

Let me put it this way. You (not you personally) have one a drink. A child runs out from behind bushes where it was impossible to see them. You are traveling UNDER the speed limit and under a .08 drink drive limit, but had one glass of wine on a lunch date. The child is hit and God forbid killed. The difference between being charged with vehicular manslaughter or being innocent could rest with just that one glass of wine.

Fire arms and drink for me is just like driving are zero tolerance. Just aint worth the risk for me. I will carry to a place of drink. Like you said if Im in a bar my life is worth the same, I just wont have a drop.

I will not drink and carry at the same time. Even if the one beer does not effect you at all that will be the first question the attorney asks you. Then you have to admit to 12 people who were too stupid to get out of jury duty that you did drink prior to the decision to discharge your weapon. The lawyer will plant that seed and it will grow from there.

The only place I find inappropriate is in a PRISON. Other than that, go armed and God Bless.

Anywhere where I think I'll actually need a gun.

I don't carry in those places because I don't go to those places.

Illegal places? Forum rules say I can't recommend illegality, even if I was considering a walk through a national park when the bears are out.

Bar (where legal)? Don't carry if you want to get in a fight. If you don't want to, but think it's likely, pick another bar. If you're going to have a few drinks, leave the gun in the holster and the car in its parking space.

Church? G-d helps those...

Gym? Off-body carry.

Hospitals (not as patient) even if they make you put on those blue pajamas to go in the clean areas? Yup.

Shower and swimming? Got me! So far, a titanium neck knife is the best I've done. But I think you can outfit a Glock with baffles for underwater, and if you get some really baggy swim trunks...

Your grandma's House ?
Easy answer, my grandma is legally blind (can still see well enuff to live on her own). But when she did get close enuff to see my empty holster she asked what it was for. Then asked where the gun was. I just told her it was in my pocket. "Just don't shoot yourslef in the leg (my dads cousin was playing quick draw and shot himslef in the leg with a .22)." Was all she told me.
