My first real knife was a Sod JR; so was my second, third and fourth, because Mom kept confiscating them, and Dad let me replace them from my own funds.
I'm looking very hard at a Queen Country Cousin....may be two, because I think Dad needs one, too. A classic 'Buster in D2, what's not to like? I have a couple Case Sodbuster Jr's in CV, and love them. One is my ''night on the town" knife, and other rides in my possibles bag; it has unzipped two or three deer in its day. The only reason I don't EDC one is because I really appreciate being able to operate a knife with one hand, and dislike having to fish around in my pocket for it when I need it in a hurry. When a horse is blowing up and trying to yank the hitching post out of the ground, these features are worth paying for.
Eleven Mike..... I carry an Ontario RAT-1 all day, every day. I didn't think of it when I bought it, but it pretty much meets your "updated Sodbuster" criteria, with the added benefit of some thumb traction on the blade spine. The blade profile is even somewhat Sod-like.
