Hi guys,

I am doing some research before buying and wanted to know what the thoughts were on the 9mm 1911. I used to think why would anyone ever get a 1911 in 9mm? But, after shooting one I really like it. It looks like a1911, feels like a 1911, but shoots with almost no recoil, and follow up shots are instant and right on target. So, what are you guy’s thoughts? I will only be range shooting and home protection- No CCW in NJ.

I am mainly looking at the Springfield Loaded Stainless, but would consider others.

Thank you

but every time I do I just buy a Browning Hipower instead.

I really like the BHP's too, but the trigger on the ones that I have shot were rough and heavy, almost gritty, like there was sand in it.

I bought a Dan Wesson 9mm 1911 and can't praise it enough. Quite fun to shoot and as accurate as I had hoped which is saying a lot.

9mm is comparatively cheap to reload too. It eats my cast lead reloads like candy.

9mm 1911 is a blast to shoot! I made one from a Springfield 38super 1911A1 and it shoots both rounds very nicely. The 38super mags will feed 9mm and you can load 38super a little higher than 9mm. Best of both worlds if you ask me. Especially since I only paid $390.00 for it! :D

All of mine (including the FM) are decent with a little work. If I could get a RIA Hard chrome .38 Super with better sights, I'd throw a roto 9mm barrel in it and shoot both.

I'm wondering if the OP is looking at a full-size 1911 "adapted" to shoot 9mm, or something like The Aegis, a sort of reduced-size 1911?

I personally would go toward the Aegis concept.

The closest I have done though, as far as shooting 9mm out of a "1911" is a Star BM.

We own a m1911 a1 45. acp and love it. i say why buy a 9mm when you can get the original 45. acp with more knock down power. the 1911 a1 is heavy enough to reduce the recoil of the weapon and keep it acurate.

I say why not buy a 9mm? The 9mm has plenty of knock down power, and is significantly cheaper to shoot. Just do what I did and get both!! I enjoy shooting them both. The full size 9mm 1911 has very little recoil and is a hoot to shoot. The .45 is also great but can break your wallet depending on how much you shoot.

Nope. Looking at the full size. I looked at the Aegis. it is very nice, but since no ccw here, I would rather have the full size.

J1979: Those are pretty (drool)- what make are they?

Just a hint you will not be able to find a new PM9 anywhere, they have only made I belive 40-45 of them to date. You may be able to conjur up a used one, sometimes on gun broker. They are supposed to be making more for 09, they are very limited production. Id call DW and see if you could get one reserved soon, if thats what you decide you want. It should come in right around or slightly above 1k. GO over to www.1911forum.com and you will get plenty of reviews on DW's

Your comment regarding the BHP having a gritty trigger is correct, but can be greatly alleviated by removing the magazine safety. As for a 1911 chambered in 9mm, that makes a lot of sense, as others have pointed out. While you are researching various makes, I recommend you take a look at:
www.brazoscustom.com/
On their main menu click on "STI" pistols in the red area at the left. STI is well regarded for quality, and Brazos seems to have good pricing. They also offer a "high performance package" that includes a trigger job. I am personally considering the Trojan 5 as a best-bang-for-the-buck choice.

Thats why I rebuilt my AMT Hardballer into a dedicated rimfire pistol.

I would like a 9mm 1911 though, I shot a .38 super mil-spec springer that had a 9mm bbl installed and really liked it, but never got around to getting a 9mm 1911. Last time I was at the SA website I didnt see the .38 super milspec.

Besides, I think if I got one my wife would claim it anyway. She's already claimed my 9mm AR as her own.

The aegis is very nice, I had one and stupidly sold it.. I loved the way it shot, it was an ultra, I cant imagine how a full size would shoot, the tactical pro 9 is very nice also..
