I have a new .22 can on the way, and I need a new host for it. What options are out there for an open sight rifle with a threaded barrel?

An AR/AK clone in .22 seems like the only option. I'd rather get a bolt action, possibly in 17hmr, but I am just not sure such a thing exists with open sights.

Ruger also makes the American Rimfire bolt action in 22LR with threaded barrel and open sights

They also make it in 17 HMR

This Ruger American .17HMR had open sights before I removed them. I have an AAC Element 2 and a Tactical Solutions Axiom en route.

Then there's the 10/22 takedown.

The CZ455 has the option of changing barrels (.17 HMR .22 mag. .22lr), but only the American and the Varmint are threaded from the factory, and they don't have open sights. The CZ 452 Lux can be found if you look around and they have the best open sights of any rifle in that price range. The CZ455 Trainer also has those tangent sights, but instead of thew walnut stock on the Lux they come with a Beech stock. In that case you would need a gunsmith to thread it for you.

Craig,

Thanks for posting! That American looks like just what I am looking for -- especially since I found out that I can add tech sights. That's a good looking 1022 too.

What sort of stocks are those? Choate?

Craig,

That 17 HMR is beautiful. At the risk of high jacking this thread I would like to ask what kind of accuracy from your Ruger American. I looking for a moderately priced 17 HMR preferably with a factory threaded barrel.

My apologies to Sebastian if my question sends your thread sideways.

I haven't fully wrung it out yet but preliminary testing suggest that sub-MOA is going to be the norm. I bought it as a suppressor host and that won't be here for another month.

Craig ,

Thanks for the insight . If the rifle can do sub- MOA (with ammo it likes) in the 50 to 100 yard range it will more than fit my needs. Ninety percent of the time I will be punching holes in paper.

Thanks again Tentwing

And Sebastian Thanks again for letting me derail your thread, Tentwing
