The yoke set screw backed out completely from my S&W .45 Colt when my brother was shooting it. So when he tried rolling out the cylinder to reload, the entire assembly, yoke+cylinder, fell onto the ground. Very embarrassing for me since I had just finished bragging about the quality of the gun.

Obviously I need something more than just tightening the set screw. I need a threadlocker of some ilk. But which one? There are many!

Use whatever thread locker you like. Because, it will get loose again. Do check the screws when you think about it. Loosing screws at the range tends to remind a shooter, to occasionally check.

The bug screw came out of a M1917 S&W in 45 ACP while I was shooting it. The bug screw is that side plate screw on a five screw S&W, like this

I have no idea where you get bug screws, and I spent an hour in the grass, and finally found it! I have no idea where to get crane screws for Pythons or Colt Troopers, for example, so it is worth being afraid.

It is worth checking screw tightness when you clean pistols, or when you think about it.

I like Vibra-Tite. It's inexpensive and you can buy it as a handful of small 1gm packets, so you don't lose a large container to age.
