Shortly after they started showing up in the USA, I bought a Tikka T1X. Great little rifle, ever bit as accurate as my Sako P04 Finfire II for 1/2 the price. So what's not to like? The ugly "shark fin" magazine hanging down, that's what! UGLY is being kind!

The magazine works fine. Occasionally I get a round that decides to stick vertically in the magazine instead of horizontal and it takes a bit of finagling to get it straightened out, but like I said, occasionally.

While perusing another forum, I ran across a thread that touted a "conversion kit" that shortened the magazine to 6 round capacity and made it nearly flush with the bottom of the stock. Almost, that is. It now projects about the same as the bottom metal on the Browning Bolt stocks. Very nice, indeed.
The conversion piece is made of aluminum, well done, easy to install (took "all thumbs" Poper less than 10 minutes) and not cheap. About $20. Add that to the price of a replacement magazine ($35) and you now have $55 (plus tax and shipping) in a (mostly) plastic magazine. The converted magazine looks great and like it belongs in the T1X!

After the converting my factory magazine, I ran 6 rounds through it a couple times and it functioned perfectly. I was so pleased with it, I ordered two Tikka replacement magazines from Optics Planet (free shipping) and two more DIP conversion parts. When these new magazines and conversion parts arrive, I will be ready to use the T1X for Smallbore Silhouette!
