Tisas or RIA?

My RIA 10MM 1911 has the full rail.I like it on the 10 because it keeps a little more weight out front and that offsets the recoil a little better.I wouldn't want a heavy frame like that for a 45 though. It also makes finding the holster you want more difficult.I wound up using a 1791 holster for my Sig 320 and it's perfect for the 1911 with the rail, and I'd imagine there are others that would interchange. As far as the pistol itself goes, the RIA 1911's are great guns for the money.I paid 700 for my 10 that has a lot of features that make it a pretty decent pistol.Accurate and rock solid reliable too.I had to talk myself into it because it's not made in the USA,but I don't regret it.

I bought a RIA with low profile military sights. Right off I fed it 4 different brands of hollowpoints and followed up 400 rounds of range ammo. Not a single FTF or FTE and I am starting to actually prefer those tiny sights. When you put that tiny front post in that tiny rear notch and use a good grip and squeeze off one with that great 1911 trigger it is astounding how accurate that old design actually is. It is a combat sidearm and they never used those sights anyway just point and shoot with this great gun.

You don't need two railed pistols for 2 is 1.

Leave the old pistol alone, and just get a new railed commander.

Tisas is fine. I might pick up a GI version. I prefer spending extra for a Dan Wesson Specialist.
I got the GI version for $319! It’s worth it! but watch your grip, that slide bit hurts!

Don't own either but I like RIA guns more than Tisas. Country of origin matters to me and Turkey is not one I am willing to support just to save money on a firearm.

A friend of mine who is also a Veteran is moving for a while to a jurisdiction where his 2nd amendment rights are going to be considerably infringed. Many of the guns he owns will not be able to make the trip. He is very experienced with firearms of various types, including the 1911 in various formats. Due to the unconstitutional laws where he is headed, he is interested in purchasing a railed1911 pistol for home defense,

What's he want the rail for. Getting one without gets much more options for holsters. (Especially if he actually puts something on that rail.)

He wants a rail to mount a light. My SA operator (railed) fits in a serpa holster without the light mounted. I think he wants the rail feature to mount a light for HD and also have the option of going with no light for carry purposes. That's what I'm set up for.

Can’t go wrong with the SDS 4.25” Duty Rail model. extended Ambi safety is nice and clicky, the trigger is about 4.5, < good carry trigger weight.

Don’t forget SDS new offering… Big Boy 10mm!!!!

I've now run about 500 rounds through each of my new Tisas 1911s, maybe a few more through the Commander size Carry and maybe a few less through the full size Model 1911A1 U.S. Army and the triggers seem to have settled in at and average of 3 pounds 9 ounces for the Carry and 3 pounds 10 ounces for the Army. Both are simply as they came from the factory and the biggest change has been in the trigger feel. That has smoothed out but was always very good.

All measurement were taken with a Lyman Digital scale and results are the average over 5 pulls.

Doesn't really carry much weight anymore. There are lots of holster companies that accommodate for lights now. This is an all leather holster I found in about 15 seconds for a 1911 with red dot and light. Kydex molding for lights is even easier than leather, so plenty of those available as well.

You won't go wrong with either. I will give the RIA the nod but ever so slightly and that's because I know nothing of Tisas' warranty service record. RIA has good customer service and their CEO frequents their Facebook page helping people get stuff done.

Due to the unconstitutional laws where he is headed, he is interested in purchasing a railed1911 pistol for home defense, in lieu of using pistols he has now and buying neutered magazines. He is trying to avoid paying the higher prices that come with a Sig, SA operator, Colt M45, and so on, but he doesn't want to nose-dive into another pistol to find out its a turd. So, he was considering either the RIA TAC-Standard-FS or the Tisas 1911 Duty BR. I have zero experience with either of these manufacturers, but from looking at tables at gun shows and the display cases at gun shops, they seem to be popular. It looks like the Tisas may be a little easier to get a holster for, since it looks like the rail mimics the one on my SA operator and similar designs. Also, the Tisas has front slide serrations, which is nice but not a required feature. So what do owners/shooters of either or both of these pistols here think of them? He already has a commander size 1911 and has ordered the rail for it that is integral with the grips, but he wants a second one, since "2 is 1 and 1 is none". He also already has several pistol mountable lights and ample quality 1911 mags in 8 and 10 round capacity.
What did your buddy eventually buy?

No Tisas or any other Turkish-made gun for me. Turkey is a signature member of NATO but under Erdogan has devolved into a state that would be better suited for one of the typical middle-eastern Muslim nations.

I try to buy American-made products whenever I can. Turkey makes nothing that I need that badly.

Turkey never done anything to me.

Turkey was our friend and they make a lot of fine guns plus for NATO. I had a Tisas and it was great. But I wanted something a little nicer.... shame on me. Purchased a new Ruger SR1911 Commander and the trigger is wonderful. When I was looking a couple years back no Ruger's were to be found.

I think we have more enemies within our country to worry about then Turkey. Turkey is providing cheap good guns and that’s a win win!

I've pulled enough Turkish Liras (money) out of bad guys pockets and Turkish made ammo and munitions to not trust them. Just because they make weapons for us now doesn't mean they will never do the same to fighters targeting Americans. That is my personal philosophy.

Fine by me.

But as long ad american manufacturers fail to make a decent 1911 under $800, I've got no problem buying a Tisas. Just to spite them.

The only acceptable slide billboard is some Colts for nostalgia purposes.

All others should have clean slides. Ruger, RR, Taurus, Nighthawk, Kimber, Ed Brown Ninja Carry, Les Baers giant .45ACP, roll Mark's are all ugly as sin. Your company logo doesnt impress me.

Maybe yesteryears fudds loved that kind of stuff. But its ugly and outdated now. Unless you have the military panache to make it cool. Like Colt, CZ, HK, Glock.

Just put a serial #, brand and city, on the frame as legally required. Nothing more.

Mass produced pistols should have a corrosion resistant finish as well.
