Bill Would Block Gun Laws, Allow Arrest of Federal Agents
Wednesday, January 16th, 2013, by Bridgit Bowden

State Representative Joe Carr
A state lawmaker has introduced measures to block any new federal gun laws. Rutherford County Republican Joe Carr even went as far as to say any federal officers would be arrested if they tried to enforce such laws.
Carr’s bill would allow federal officers to be charged with a misdemeanor for carrying out laws passed by congress and executive orders from the President.

In a brief press conference Carr said although he expects support for the bill, he also anticipates legal hurdles.

“I am saying, we are going to discover whether or not it’s legal. I would not have file the bill if I didn’t think it would pass and I wouldn’t have filed a bill if I didn’t think we’d have a good chance in a court of law.”

Carr says the legislation is based a Wyoming proposal. Lawmakers in Missouri, South Carolina, and Texas have filed similar bills.

Fellow Republicans are dubious Rep. Carr’s gun proposal could become law. Rep. Jeremy Faison of East Tennessee calls it a waste of time.

“Let’s just be sensible. Nobody is going to arrest a federal agent. I mean, come on. Let’s deal in the land of reality.”

Faison has his own gun legislation, but he says it will be more narrowly tailored to block new federal laws regarding assault weapons and extended magazines.
