To our valued customers...

I used to have a job with no employees customers or suppliers. As a hunter-gatherer in the Bob Marshall wilderness in Montana.

It got kinda lonely, though.

Oh, and please (though this is apparently a stretch), try not to assume that just because a gun store employee is female, she is totally ignorant of anything firearms-related.

Well, are you really hot-looking? It sounds like you are.

The fat, pale slobs who lollygag around gun shops probably see you and feel like they have small penises. With good reason. So they overcompensate by trying to act like they actually know something you don't. And they don't, so that makes them feel like they have no penises at all. Pity them, and go help the older, fitter, better-dressed married guys who are off in the corner looking at 28 Gauges. They're much nicer, as a general rule. And they buy more, at least in the long term.

Some of the best and most knowledgable shooters I know are female, so I would never assume that a woman behind the counter doesn't know much about guns. I knew a young man or two who, not knowing anything about her, figured they'd show this young woman a few things on the range, with hilarious results.

When I was getting back into handguns 6 or so years ago, I got a little coaching from the female counter worker - the guys seemed altogether too busy and baffled that I had made it into middle age without joining the cult of the handgun. She was most helpful.

My CHL instructor was female.

The shotgun coach I hired was female (club pro at Elm Fork - the DFW members likely know who I'm talking about).

Texas is a miserable place to be a misogonist.
:)

And, btw, it's my understanding that Jimenez is the successor to Bryco, after they were litigated out of existance. Jennings was simply another brand for the Bryco product. Hence, Jimenez == Jennings, pretty much.

Yeah. Well, I grew up thinking it's all in what someone knows. Did I already say that?

What gets me though is how many women I come in contact with don't have a clue what I'm talking about. That's as compared to the ones who do know. It's not that they're women. It's that they aren't into guns or hunting or horses even though some other women I've been aquainted with are into those things.

There's this one girl I know... she's 22 years old... a shotgunner and coon hunter which are relative rarities among women in my area. Thing is she's also a barrel racer. So, she knows about the three subjects I just mentioned. Thing is, she's ten years younger than I am and she don't know the Elmer Fudd character so I assume she didn't grow up watching Looney Toons like I did. I was headed somewhere with this train of thought, but it left me.:uhoh:

For those in retail

http://www.actsofgord.com/
I don't care who is behind the counter as long as they know their stuff. Yesterday at Bass Pro in Gurnee, IL I listened to a guy buying a nice Ruger 22/45. He looked at a MK III as well and asked the sales guy what the difference was. The reply? "Well this one (22/45) has a thinner grip so it will be more comfortable to shoot." I wasn't the one buying so I just walked away shaking my head. Not that the customer was a rocket scientist either but still.

I would treat

a woman in a gun shop with even greater respect, because their numbers in our ranks are fewer and they are a life giving blood to our cause. Women who can shoot or at least not be afraid of "guns" are Bad2theBone.

st

ps - what I hate is when some guy at the gun show, with arms crossed, sneers and smirks everytime I ask a question because obviously, by my asking, I don't deserve an answer.:barf: Sometimes I take a beginners stance on many things because I tend to learn more and hear things differently than trying to act like I know it all, or much at all.

I'd be interested in finding out your secret to being self employed and not having to deal with customers

I always thought the perfect self employed business would require no:
Customers
Employees
Suppliers

Oh-ho-ho... :) I went back to work in the mental health field as an independent contractor. So instead of dealing with the mentally ill in a retail situation I deal with them in a clinical situation where I can better address any behaviors they exhibit that are unacceptable. There is nobody over my head that they can really complain to if I hurt their feelings by saying they should not shower me with profanities when they are applying for government benefits. Instead of having a customer trying to steal from the store and use me to get things for free while simultaneously threatening my job I have legitimately mentally ill people including those that have served time for serious crimes like rape, murder, etc. trying to be nice enough to obtain government benefits via their appointment with me. There are some that are dangerous obviously but I am trained in dealing with them and in all the years I have done this only a few have ever even tried to square off with me, less than those in the retail job, truth be told. The most I get now is this:

Them: :cuss:

Me: :scrutiny:

Me:

Me: :neener:

Them: :uhoh:

Me:

Technically I have a doctor that I answer to but he trusts me implicitly and we discuss every single case that comes through the door. I can get along with almost anybody, including those that come in with a chip on their shoulder, but when a true bad apple comes through we can handle them without getting twenty people involved. Since it is just an appointment that is one step in the process they have nothing to gain by making a scene, but they don't call them mentally ill because they're easy to work with... Still, at least I don't have a boss telling me I need to lower my return ratio with one side of his mouth while taking back a bunch of used merchandise I sold a year and a half ago with a 90 day warranty because some guy pitched a b!tch. :banghead:

Yep, I don't miss retail work...
