I have a FS Polytech legend AK 47/s, and am thinking of trading it for a colt LE M4. do y'all think this is a good trade? the AK doesn't come in a box, has 200 rounds put through it, the 3 magazines are Chinese but not polytech. Any opinions, suggestions or violent reactions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance:D

They are both great rifles, but assuming equal condition, the Colt is worth significantly more money.

I used to have one of the Polytechs, but it isn't in the same league as the Colt (for price or performance).

Depending upon version of Colt, on-line auctioned LE 6920s are selling for $1600 - $1800 and 6940s are going from $2000 - $2800.

Even if prices eventually drop after the post-election panic, the best AKs tend to not command the value of the best ARs.

I'd do that trade (for the AR) any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Ak's are not junk at all. They are just not pretty. You can soak a AK in a lake, use it for a paddle, and fill it with sand and mud and still it will fire.

The AR won't deal with any of that, and the dainty locking lugs only engage 1/2 way when it is clean. Look and see...

There is no forward assist on any AK.

The question is, is it a gun to use to save yer hide, or is it a gun to show off at some range?

The AR is far more accurate when it works, and has a far lesser recoil. It makes a great gun for 4 legged varmints, but is a poor stopper for deer.

Go and shoot at a deer and miss the first time and there will be no second time. That recoil spring in the stock is too noisey....

If the idea is a trade up money wise take the AR, and you can pick up 3 AK's for it..

The killer for me was the poor bolt lock up and clean...

Potential for appreciation in value is strongly in favor of the AK. Legends are tough to find under $1500, and they still make the colt.

Well I have seen a deer stand to gun fire and not budge 1 inch many times, but make a weird sound like a splunggg... and that deer is gone..

Deer will stand and watch a skidder pulling logs. They will watch a man with a saw running, and they will watch a carpenter pound nails with a hammer.

I have shot targets and had deer come to see what it is.....

You fart wrong and that deer is gone...

I suppose my previous comments deserve clarification.

Unless you like poorly finished, crudely assembled, dismally inaccurate, ergonomically challenged rifles, AK's are pretty much junk.

And I have yet to see the deer that didnt run in response to a gunshot.

There was a video on here somewhere just the other day, some guy took three shots at one, and it stood perfectly still through the first two . . .

Lone_Gunman, I hear ya, but understand the AK is a shooter, and for a mindless peasant. That peasent is not into the refined guns Americans are.

All he wants is a gun that will shoot, and with out fussing around cleaning it. he wants to add bling, but no tacticool bling. He adds religious tokens, beads and bobbles, shiney crap made out of anything he can find.

If the gun doesn't work he doesn't go pay a gunsmith, he throws the gun away, and gets another one. he could care a less about wood to metal fit, what stain, if there is hand cut checkering or pressed checkering, and or any gold inlay.

I have other guns with much nice wood to metal fit, even my flinters have a better wood to metal fit, but when it is that rainy day, you won't find me with a prissy little .233 pea shooter, because for one thing i will need game.

If you never saw a deer stand to gun fire you ain't seen nearly enough deer.

I am on a 56 K mo dumb and had no idea there was any vidio... When I want to see deer I just go out the door, and sometimes I see a moose insted.

The deer here run over 200 pounds easy, and can run over 275 thats dressed.

And yeah if you can see a deer it can hear you breathing. I live in the sticks too and no game I see is park deer..

A wild deer will stand to gun fire a lot of the time. Like I said I can go target shooting and they come to watch. So do moose..

You fart wrong and poof there gone. There is no day in the year i don't hear gunshots either. That doesn't upset me a bit. Everyone and their mother shoot around here. There is a range but most folks go out back some where, and shoot on their own land.

I haven't been to a gun range in over 3 decades...

Oh yeah I agree most any AK is worth about 25 bucks American, but we are screwed by the systems that be.. Thing is they work and work and work...

The money value of the AR over the AK means I would take the trade. The points about both rifles strengths and weaknesses have already been made.

I hope there aren't any novice shooters reading this thread. it is full of misinformation and poorly constructed opinions being stated as fact.

As for the OPs question, others have stated the AR is worth more money. From a financial standpoint it is a very good trade.

Legends are rare and will keep going up in value. The Colt AR is also a nice rifle, but it is NOT the end all of ARs. Both guns are worth about the same money now. It boils down to your personal choice. AKs are damn good rifles very reliable with a better performing bullet, and only a MORON would classify them a junk. I really like my AR, but I love my AKs. You don't see any posts asking "what parts break on an AK" or "what spare parts do I need to take to a carbine course for an AK". Plus Colt ARs will be around and easy to get where as the Legend will not.
