This weekend I took my daughter Tori on her first big game hunt and she shot a very nice boar with her custom M-70 .308.

Here is the story in her own words.

Enjoy

This is the story of my first big game animal. It all started when my dad got me my new gun and I learned how to shoot it. The rifle is a 308 with a short stock. My dad loaded me some bullets that don’t kick very hard. Last Friday we went to the ranch in Texas to go hog hunting.

We drove all around on Saturday , my dad shot two and my dog ,Nitro, caught one. Later that evening we walked almost a mile to where we new there were a lot of hogs by corn bait. Me, my sister ,mom ,and dad laid down and waited for a hog to come by. Then just before dark a pig came by but I never got a shot because it didn’t turn sideways then it went into the bush and came out again about 5 times then it finally began to feed and turned sideways!

We new it was at 102 yards like we had practiced the day before. Once the pig turned sideways my dad said “Turn off your safety and let him have it“. So I aimed for his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. Then the pig ran away and we heard him crash into the trees. Then we went down there to look for blood. My dad found blood pretty close to where the pig was. Then we followed the blood for about 50yards and then we found the pig! My dad gave me a big hug and he said he was proud of me.

It was so dark we had to take pictures with the flashlight. My mom who is a vet cut open its chest and I found out I hit it in the heart. I can’t wait to go hunting again.

Wow! I am sure that this event was as exciting for you and Mom as it was for Tori.
I read Tori's story and showed her trophy picture to my girls (4 and 6) they were just as excited because sometime in the future they will be out there hunting for hogs as well.

Tell Tori we enjoyed the story and we hope to hear and see more.

Mike,

How have you been?

My heart was in my throat the whole time. It was one of the most exciting hunting experiences a man can have!

I am so proud of Tori she pulled it off like an old pro.:D

Tori you did great! im so proud for you , you are lucky to have a mom and dad to take you hunting , keep up the good work! csa:D

My little gal is 19 months. I can't wait for the day that we are able to go out and do that. Kinda brings a tear to your eye.

Nice job Tori...on the hunt AND the narrative! I've never had the opportunity to hunt hogs. I enjoyed the story and pics very much.

Tori and Family:

I just read the narrative from your hunt. The writing was interesting. You really captured the spirit of the hunt. It sounds like Dad taught you very well! Congratulations! I will have my 12-year old daughter read this when she and my wife return from vacation. She too will be doing a hog hunt after a surgery and recovery time. She's pretty excited, as I am sure you were. Thank-you all for sharing. It's nice to see such family outings!

Appreciatively,

Gene (Doc2005)

P.S.: Wow! That's a big pig!

To all,

We have just read your responses and Tori has asked me to say thank you.

It is past her bed time so she is to tired to write herself.

By the way we had a another first on this trip. Bailee, Tori's sister hunted her first rabbit and made a very nice 25 yard shot with her .22LR Chipmunk.

Bailee is 7 (and a half).

She is also a very good fishermen.:)

The rabbit was so heavy that Bailee didn't want hold it..

Now that is some good work. Good on Mom and Dad. And nice shooting ladies!

My Ten yr. old Elisabeth and I went to the range last saturday and she got to shoot her gun for the first time. She was stoked to put it mildly. She did really well.

Congratulations, Tori! Nice boar, and nice shot! 100 yard heart shot! Thanks for sharing your story.

Also, congratulations to Bailee on that fine jackrabbit, which I believe is a headshot. Man, those kids are becoming SHOOTERS!

They've come a long way, my friend. I couldn't be happier for you. You've got a couple of great kids there, and a VERY understanding wife!

I'm sure Dr. Kim did a good job on the necropsy, and I'm impressed that the girls participated. So, are they going to be Doctors like their mommy, Pilots like their daddy, or evil businesspeople like their uncle Pat? ;-)

You also know how hard it is going to be for them to date, right? Most times the young man has to worry about an overprotective father with a quick trigger finger. Those poor lads are going to have to be better shooters, riders and hikers than your girls, and I'm not sure they are going to stack up!

All the best to the family!

Just wanted to say congratulations to Tori on a great hog! Bailee looks like she can really handle that chipmunk, nice shot. Dad you get a big slap on the back as well! From one father to another, I bet you were sure proud. :D

Excellent Job

H&H and Tori, et al.... I am glad to hear your story, and glad you and you sister like to hunt. Your dad is lucky to have such good hunting buddies and I hope you have lots more stories to tell us.
Please share the next hunt you get to go on with us.

Well done and congrats on becoming a successful hunter.

Now as a non-hunter myself I have a question. What do you do with a hog like that? I'm going to assume that it's good for eating, are there other things as well (like tanning the hide or something?).

Me just now realizing I know almost nothing about wild pigs. :D

If you tan the hide right you would have some nice footballs, you know pig skins......
From what I hear they are fine eating, not sure about the hides and tanning but heck why not?

How's a wild hog like that compare to the store bought stuff for eating? I've never tried wild hog before. Great bacon, I bet :)

Tori, that is just great! Congratulations! You learned well, practiced hard, hunted hard and were rewarded with a wonderful experience with your family you can proudly remember for the rest of your life. All around, just a great experience.

I also have to congratulate you on the telling of the story. That, too, was a fantastic job! Keep the story, the pictures, etc. together with the mounted head of the hog (right dad?) and you will have a treasure.

BTW, congrat's to dad and mom for raising you so well and for allowing you to have such wonderful experiences at your age.
