Trade or Sell my Security Six? What to do?

Here's the dilemma... I have two .357's; one is a beautiful 4" stainless GP100 and the other is a 6" stainless Security Six. Both are in great shape. The Security Six has basically turned into a safe queen.

I really feel the need for a .38 snubby like an LCR or a 442 and I was thinking of using the Security Six in a trade.

Will I regret trading away this gun down the road?

I considered that very same trade in with my 4" blued security six. I decided against it and ponied up the cash for the 438 I carry. I do not regret doing it that way at all.

I say keep both and save up for the third gun. A nice Security Six is hard to find and you may regret selling it.

The Security Six will be working for your grandchildren. We could probably go into a couple of greats for the GP100. Start them as family heirlooms.

Keep both Rugers and buy the snubbie. Even if you have to save for a while it will keep you from getting a very bad leg cramp from trying to kick yourself in the butt.

Do not sell the Security Six. I regret having parted company with every Security Six I ever owned. I never really missed the GP-100 I had though; good gun but just not the same.

Almost everyone

who has posted here about having traded/sold a gun regrets it. The exceptions seem to be mostly malfunctioning guns.
Good luck.

My view is that I keep a real shooting gun in calibers I like. No duplications. I would trade it. But MAKE SURE (obviously) that you get what you want or the cycle continues.

This being said, there are a few huns I wish I had never trade away!

I just returned from the range after firing my SS. First time I've had the opportunity to put a lot of rounds through it. That gun is mine. It will stay mine. I don't feel so bad about the lousy trade I thought I'd made to get it. Some day the other guy is gonna wish he had it back I'm sure. I think you will regret trading it.

I really dont like 6" barrels on any guns so go ahead and trade that safe queen and get a good snubby.

Hello friends and neighbors // I'm glad this thread showed up now and not 2 days ago.
I just bought an Aug. 1977, DA/SA, 4", .357 Security Six ---Yesterday:D

The Ruger Security Six was pictured on the back of the 1974 Gun Digest 28th Anniversary Deluxe edition. I was 12 and had just gotten my first Marlin M60 and the Gun Digest for Christmas. I finally own one.

The edges were still sharp. I stoned the trigger edges but left the center alone. I also smoothed the underside edges of the hammer, especially where it touches the web of my hand in single action. The cylinder rear edge needed just a little attention too. No complaints here though.:D

The grips are fine.
The range does not have Hogue rubber grips in stock so I added two strips of innertube( a tip gleaned from THR) to make it through the days shooting.

I don't think I'd sell the SS.
Hope you enjoy which ever you keep.

I have a couple of sixes, a 2&3/4 in and a 4 in. that said- if your not shooting it and don't enjoy it as much as the gp100, it might not be a bad time to sell.

sixes are going up in value now, so you stand a good chance to get a good dollar for it.

just make sure you don't want it anymore.

If the 'Six was 3" or 4" I'd say keep it, but I can't find a use for a 6" .357, especially one with a smaller frame.

Trade the Security Six.

How much where you hoping to get on a trade?

I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of $375. It's in really nice shape and I have two sets of grips for it.
