Been thinking about getting a single shot .50cal percussion and so far I kinda like the Traditions Trapper model. Couple things that are a plus for me is hooked breach and barrel wedge for easy takedown cleaning and adjustable sight.

Also.. anyone ever use a shot load in this type of ML'er? Would make a fun little close in jack rabbit and rattler gun.

Shot loads could be loaded directly in the barrel, but to try to extend the effective range with rifles, RedLeaf67 experimented with making shot cartridges [or shot cups] to help hold the shot load together
and it seemed to work for him.

How to improve shot load performance from a rifled barrel:

I enjoy shooting the Trapper. It's comfortable, accurate and easy to take down for cleaning. Mine does best with a swab between shots to maintain accuracy. Can't help with the shot questions as I never tried it that way but assume it would have the same problems as any rifled barrel with shot.

I have both the Lyman Great Plains and the Traditions Trapper. Between the two, I'd go Lyman.

I owned the Trapper (until I lent it to my son, haven't seen it since, that was 8 years ago) and have shot the Lyman, and I'd have to agree with 4v50 Gary.
