Here goes: a while ago, me and a colleague (both in LE) were talking about the possibility of taking a stateside class sooner or later. Local (European) training is pretty good, but we'd welcome a few more opportunities. I am well aware that TTPs and laws may vary widely, but I guess one can never have too much training... Anyway, an apparently reputable trainer on another forum stated that it was illegal to train foreign nationals, be it on US soil or not. When I pointed out exactly such a course by another supposedly reputable trainer, I got more or less blown off...

Anybody got the lowdown on this ? Not really looking for restricted/LEO/military-only courses; I am pretty sure that there are great "open" carbine classes available as well. Thanks for your input !

I'd contact a reputable trainer like Larry A. Vickers, Pat Rogers, or Clint Smith/Thunder Ranch for an answer.

Somebody needs to lock up the US military then.

Anyone with a green card can join and they get three weeks of rifle marksmanship and familiarization on machine guns and anti-tank weapons at a minimum.

First of all, I'm not a lawyer, international law or otherwise. I don't know all the legalities of offering firearms training across national borders.

But I know it happens- several nationally known trainers I know go abroad to offer training fairly regularly. If it's legal for them to go teach in other countries, it would seem that students could come here as well.

Best bet IMHO is to contact whichever instructors you're interested in and see what they say about you coming stateside for a class. Or catching up with them overseas, whichever is the easier possibility. See the partial list (with links) at http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=396584 for some possible points of contact. Check the class schedules for various itinerant instructors as well, to see if they'll be abroad.

hth,
