I"m an aspiring basement gunsmith and have a hankerin' to work the trigger on my stainless Commander. I've done a fair bit of research and have aquired most of the tools needed, with the rest on my Brownells wish list.
The trigger currently breaks crisply at 5# as measured on an old RCBS "fish scale" style gage. I'd like to take it down to 3.5#, as this pistol is not intended for carry.
I do not want to drop money into an after market trigger group at this time.
The hammer is machined stainless, but I believe the sear and disconnector are MIM (haven't inspected it closely yet)
Q1: Since the trigger breaks crisply now, should I consider leaving it as is and simply putting a 19# main spring in.
Q2: Could I get good results by simply leaving the sear and disconnector as is (or very lightly stone the existing angles) and then squaring the hammer hooks and filing/stoning them to .020"?
Q3: Can I stone the MIM sear on a Wilson style jig without removing the temper? or will it remove to much material? I have fine India and hard Arkansas stones.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
