So I got the new MRO Patrol with the QD mount. Being QD it stands to reason that you should be able to hand-tighten the bolt with just fingers, however when tightening as hard as I can the mount starts to loosen after 3 rounds out of a 5.56 rifle.

There is no torque spec in the manual for this bolt. There is a hex head for a wrench, so I can tighten it more, but then isn't the QD aspect gone as it is too tight to remove in the field?

If I did tighten it with a wrench, what would you guys recommend for inch-pounds?

Thanks

If you really need a QD setup look at ADM or Larue. I like their lever systems as you don't use tools to lock the optic to the upper, and practical return to zero when removed and replaced.

Just tighten it in 1/8 turn increments until it's solid.

With it being QD that's what you're actually tightening as opposed to fixed, thus the lack (normally) of a torque value. with it fully seated and pushed forward, tighten until it's releasable but a bit on the "damn this release is tight". But not stupid tight. Like Jesse said, go incrementally until it's very snug yet releasable. You should be gtg. I've never seen one that didn't require a little help from a wrench (except for those requiring no tools). Once it's "there", work the lever several times. Lock it down and grab it; move it like a crazed ape. Tighten a little more as necessary. Just make sure it's fully forward in the slots due to that physics thing. :)

This kind of thing is why I tend to not trust QD mounts of any kind. The best QD mount on the market can’t touch the clamping force of a well designed mount using a nut and bolt torqued to 65in-lbs. Depending on the thread pitch that will give over 1000lbs of clamping force, so your optic isn’t going anywhere.

I think the mount is defective, that shouldn’t be happening.

There are a number of QD mounts that work very well and are trusted by African PH’s on seriously recoiling rifles.

QDs work fine or, they should. I even have a cheap Leapers/UTG QD riser that doesn't budge and has held zero on two reinstalls. Had a ADM Recon that was very good too.
