In Illinois we are living with an AWB implemented in January. Several regional courts have ordered TROs for their regions and the particular plaintiffs. The ban is still in place for the vast majority of the rest of the state.
One of the LGSs involved has resumed sales of items on the banned list subject
to the caveat shown. obviously their legal team is guiding them through this. You have a FOID and pass a background check you can buy what ever you want.
My question is,if the courts find for the state, what happens to those that purchased a MSR under the TRO?

This is complicated as there is not just the one Stay nor one TRO (and they would be injunctions, not Restraining Orders).
At one point there were 8 or 9 separate legal actions pending.
Last I heard, it's down to 4 or 5, and at least one heading to District Court. And, at lest 2 of those are statewide injunctions. There's a parallel case that puts the legality of FOIDs into question, but enforcement of that is not stayed.

The 'big' case, as I understand it gets reviewed next week, which should determine if the law is to be implemented pending judgement or is stayed pending judgement.

A purchase made during a Temporary Injunction is legal. That why Californians were so happy when their Mag Ban was stayed until the en banc reversal of the stay by 9th Circus. It creates a mess, which is why Courts are so loathe to act decisively.

For those of us who are ignorant, all those acronyms are really annoying. I can figure out most of them. Others not so much. What is an MSR? Google is no help.
Agree. Common practice is to spell out any acronym the first time it is used in a thread, even if it is a common one like Automatic Colt Pistol (ACP). You would be surprised how many people get that wrong.

I for one would appreciate if that practice were picked up on this forum.

Modern Sporting Rifle
The euphemism used to try to deceive our enemies that we are not buying military type weapons.

Amen, not to divert but it was a stupid attempt to pander by implying that ARs weren't that dangerous and are really recreational toys. So here's the Headlines:

30 killed with Assault Rifle - anti gunner
30 Killed with Military Styled Semiautomatic Rifle - realistic
30 Killed with Modern Sporting Rifle. - pro gunner

Diversion over.

Stays, restraining orders, injunctions and writs come in different flavors and each should be read to find out the scope, duration and parties affected by the court's order. We must not give legal advice on the ramifications of buying a banned object, and we don't have the order upon which to base such advice.

The THR primer in General Gun Discussions has quite a few acronyms and abbreviations defined. Maybe hso will add MSR to the list if it is not already there.
