Both previous Tulsi Gabbard threads (from the fall) are now closed, so I'm starting this one.

Now put out a video opposing the pistrol brace rule, including bringing knowledgeable other voices, and is at least saying all the right things. Segués into a more general discussion stressing that laws are supposed to be made by Congress, not faceless bureacrats.

As the debate over guns and our constitutionally-guaranteed Second Amendment rights continues, what is often overlooked are common sense actions that many advocates on both sides of this issue agree on. There are practical steps that both the public and gun owners recognize as necessary to keep firearms out of the hands of those who should not own or use them. Tulsi is working to increase school security, shore up and reform our mental healthcare system, close the gun show and online loopholes, ban military-style assault weapons and bump stocks, and require background checks on anyone seeking to purchase a gun.
She has cosponsored legislation like the Gun Show Loophole Closing Act, the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Act, the Keeping Guns from High Risk Individuals Act, the Assault Weapons Ban, the Support Assault Firearms Elimination and Reduction for our Streets Act, the Domestic Violence Loophole Closure Act, the Automatic Gunfire Prevention Act, the Gun Violence Research Act, and more.

Posted to her official Facebook page in 2018. I don't care what she says now. She is not a friend of the 2A to me.

That's indeed pretty damning.

I think I posted in one of the earlier threads that I would like to see her explain why she changed her position on those points, does anyone know if she's done that?

Because she was seeking the Democrat nomination for President, which is impossible without being in lockstep with Democrat gun control proposals. Just mentioning any protection at all for 2A, no matter how trivial, is the kiss of death for such candidacy, and likely one major reason for her failure.

Now that she isn't a professed Democrat anymore she's free to alter her public position; however, there are several other reasons why I don't trust her.

I liked her even when she was a dem. She’s not a woman of the system, per se. But since leaving the Democratic Party her public positions have certainly improved. I’d want more explanations and a clear repudiation of her former position before I actually vote for her though.

Worth another quote for the bottom.

Did you find her explanations persuasive?
I did. I don't fully trust anyone who goes into politics but I would back another presidential bid if she ran.
And/or, any chance you could provide links?

I don't trust her. Same for DeSantis, Pompeo, Trump, Abbott. Everybody on both sides is compromised or controlled. Politics brings out the worst in humanity and Tulsi Gabbard just proved it. Of course I will still vote for pro 2A but I don't trust any of them.

I would give her a chance, she could make real changes and encourage more women to the conversative side.

It COULD be..she changed her mind. Once she got to see how the game works when she ran for the nomination, and how whacked her party was when that happened...she just may have seen the light.

I always thought she was the least nutty, least insane, least left Commie the Dems had left...and I even agreed with her a few times...

But, until she PROVES herself...and that takes time..I have to stand on her record when it comes to guns...she is a grabber. It's up to her to prove otherwise.

I'm going to say what I said the last time this discussion came up you can say anything on YouTube video. Her voting record does not support what she's saying

People generally become more conservative as they get older. Maybe she's sincerely rethought her previous position. I don't particularly trust her, but that goes for all politicians.
My thought exactly but she was once the golden girl of the left swinging all the popular narrative of the left… shows a lot of them know the right things to do but they are lots of career politicians.

Well I would expect she would do as much to expand gun rights as trump did. Something about a five point plan that apparently got shedded two minutes after inauguration.

Sidenote:
bearcreek mentioned that one of the links is to Jocko Willink.

Many of the new gun owners, or various lurkers reading this, might not realize that Jocko is very pro-Sec. Amendment (iirc) and is a retired Commander with the SEAL teams.
