BADGES ON THE WRONG SIDE

I haven't gotten a good enough look @ the sidearm of choice by that actor but it always bugs me that the Uniformed officers in "The Sheild" always wear their badges on the WRONG SIDE of their uniforms.

Don't they have any "Techical Advisors" on the show that can help them get Squared Away?

Very Respectfully,
CAPTAIN MIKE

He carries a 4506, with a J frame backup. I think LAPD has their stuff trademarked, hence the uniforms looking odd. I think I read that (here) in an earlier post.

Captain Mike:
Fed168 is on the right track, some uniforms have been trademarked. Putting the badge on the wrong side gets around the trademark

Why would anyone trade mark a uniform? It's already illegal for criminals to impersonate a police officer. If they are going to break one law, what's to stop them from breaking a trade-mark law?

Sound suspicious. The City of Los Angeles has filed some applications to register LAPD, etc as trademarks for clothing, etc. That is more for souvenir stuff more than actual uniforms (like all of the FDNY T-shirts that are now popular).

In any event, using a uniform on a TV show would be fair use, and not actionable, unless it was done in a way that implied approval, endorsement, etc. But why risk it. Just make a few minor changes that give you a defense in advance.

Disclaimer: I am a trademark attorney, but I do not play one on the Internet.

Actually it's a 10mm

There was a scene last season where he was loading 10mm ammo into his magazines. 1006 maybe.

It is definitely a large frame 3d gen smith semi-auto. Could be either .45 or 10mm.

Anybody notice that the young detective, Dutch, keeps his gun in his desk drawer and only puts it on when he leaves the station?

Great show. The new season starts March 9.

LAPD will not allow the use of their badge or uniform unless the script and production are approved by their advisors. That's why the badge and uniform are of a slightly different design than the real LAPD stuff. I think the badges changed once or twice early in the first season as well.

On thursdays repeat show on FX....

When the BG called Mackey on hte phone and said that he had him "green lighted" or something to that effect, then everyone stared at the stereo and the show ended......what the heck was that all about???? I didn't get it? I know who the BG is but how did he "get" Mackey???? ***??

I have been under the impression that its a 4506. I dont know if they ever say it in the show, but that is what the fan sites list it as and it seems to fit the bill.

Another cool thing about Chiklis is that he isnt an anti! I have season one on dvd and in the commentaries they get into the issue of firearms. While the writers/producers talk about how they pretty much hate guns, Chiklis tells a story about how when he was growing up his dad bought him a shotgun. Chiklis said that his dad made him shoot a watermelon with the shotgun to show its lethality potential. Chiklis then went on to say that since that day he has had a respect for firearms. The way he told it seemed to be very pro-2a to me.

BTW, The Shield is my absolute favorite show on television.

ANY CCW or CIVILIAN HOME DEFENSE SHOWS?

For the die-hard "SHIELD" fans who have seen every episode -- does anyone know if they have had an episode that features a CCW permit holder in a positive light or whether any "Home Defense" by gun owners other than police officers were portrayed?
