Also, do we have to reserve camp sites or first come first served?
I'm supposed to be working on that.

WC won't take any reservations until February 1st. I guess their phonelines are an absolute madhouse that day.

Sandy's thought was, we could get as many pre-paid reservations as we can, and her and Smoke Rizen's wife would drive down there 2/1/07 and reserve what they can in person.

We would need a check or debit card from Bratch, but that could be arranged.

Im interested, and I have a NRA membership

Im interested in attending, and I have a NRA membership. Im trying to talk my brother into it to, which would add two memberships, but for now Im only confirming myself.

Guys, you need to just bite the bullet and say, "You must be a NRA member to attend." Otherwise your going to have a problem making sure you hit the 50% mark for the insurance. People you are counting on to attend who are NRA members will wind up canceling, other's who aren't members will reserve and show up at the last minute. Seriously, just looking at the percentages on the thread showing who is planning to come, you just need to make NRA membership mandatory for this event.

I'm thinking about attending. When do you need to know by? I don't have my schedule worked out that far in advance.

Trebor, basically we're putting a Gun Club together. If the club is over 50% NRA, we can get insurance. No insurance no shoot.

It doesn't matter who shows up at Whittington and who doesn't.

At some point, we have to have a cutoff date in order to do the red tape on the insurance paperwork.

Sometime in the next three months or so, we'll do a summary of everything, I think--or guess, and post the Real Deal In Final Form. :)

just out of curiosity why is it that there needs to be a club and insurance?

Im sure there is a good reason and doesn't matter to me either way, the reason just escapes me lol

Because the center will not allow you to conduct a event with out it. simple huh!
so are you guys going to be surprized when you are standing there at 9 that mourning and they tell you they are booked up? and then you ask how can that be when you told me we could not book before now? LOL watch as I have seen it happen. Maybe you picked a weekend with no other PET events for them and you will be OK?
So did you get the standard we will make sure the folks that run this event can get lodging as they have always done that before? Get it in Writting when you confirm the dates.

I have not read the insurance thing but can get a copy of it no problem.
just list if need be a little over 50% of the folks that are NRA members and get the insurance and be done with it. I have never ever saw it wher you check the NRA card of a person before they shoot. Heck the NRA does not even require you to be a member to shot a NRA highpower event with the exception of the nationals. they will take your money anyway but your score will not count toward a classification.

Have they asked you to provide the NRA membership numbers of the shooters or just to make sure you have at least half? I take it is just the later as you have just asked if you are or not and have not asked for proof?

Why would you put a cutoff date on if you can go or not? The only time I see that is with range compacity being full. I doubt that would happen at the center.

Oh yeah if you have not noticed yet I am a member of the NRA. I hate them but to run regionals and shoot at the nationals I do not have much choice so I fork over the blood money to them. And I am also a Whittington center gun club member also.

You are not making folks that do not plan on shooting in your events pay are you? Some folks I would think would show up to watch and hang out with their many friends from the board here. I plan on going but have no plans on shooting in any event and if I decide to shoot I can just head over to the sight in range or any other range you do not have booked on my center membership.
I also plan on going down to the spirit of america long range matches this year for a few days and do not plan on shooting but hanging out with friends. I will most likely just help out if they need someone. I did that for the guys running the New Mexico regional championships back in june. Instead of shooting the state palma championships I just was the pit officer all day.

I think this will be a FUN time for all envolved and I hope it will become a yearly event.

Jon, I don't see any problem insofar as "hanging out". We start with the idea that those who are signing up want to shoot. Gotta start somewhere.

Those who just want to hang out, and who are not NRA members, can tell us NOW and we can put them on a separate list.

Regardless of who checks cards or doesn't, we start out as Sammy Straight Arrow, following the WC rules about clubs, membership and insurance. Honor and integrity and all that.

I already have the insurance paperwork; all I need is a club name for the policy and a realistic number of club members.

I just learned of this from Justin's sig line.

I check THR "new posts" several times a day, almost everyday, yet I've still seemed to have missed this. (Admittedly, I don't spend much time perusing Rallying Point forum.)

Please forgive me if this has already been suggested (I haven't had time to read the entire thread yet): could be good to start a thread in most of the other forums where most of us spend most of our time (for me, that's rifle country, shotguns & maybe a couple of others). Just announce this thread, perhaps make them stickies, and then close it so that all readers will come here to discuss it instead of doing it in that thread.

Just a thought.

I wish I knew for sure whether I'll be able to make it down for this. I soooo hope so. I'd love to meet all you people that I spend hours a day reading and corresponding with.

But it'll depend entirely on how good my business is at the start of next year (and of course, whether I'd rather buy a plane ticket or a new rifle ... )

It's my birthday weekend. I'm rather new here, but would like to go. I guess I can fork over money to join NRA too.

I guess I'm going to say :"count me in" again, as I didn't appear on the last list of partcipants. I applied to NRA: no card after 4 weeks???

I am interested in attending, but I am in no way going to be able to commit until at least a month before the event, because my schedule is so crazy as to not allow planning that far into the future. Is that gonna screw me for shooting?

I applied to NRA: no card after 4 weeks

My card took about 5 to 6 weeks to get to me.

It will be there Thursday. :D

Now that would be scary if it showed up that day. Mahahahaha. LOL...

Count me in, I'm Still planning on showing up. :)

After checking in SWMBO, it looks like you can put us down. We are both NRA members, I am a life and she is an annual. As long as we spend the night in Estes on the way back to Montana she is ready to go.
